You are what you eat, but there’s one more thing that’s equally important and that is, how you eat?! Whether you’re eating your dal-khichdi or chicken fried momos, how you eat your food indeed has a significant impact on your body. In today’s fast-paced world, people end up having unhealthy eating habits without even them realizing it. This article shares with you five such unhealthy eating practices so that you can avoid them.

1 – Mindless eating

Mindless eating takes place in one too many forms. Firstly, people tend to eat when they’re not hungry. You might grab something to eat because you are bored, stressed, tired or even sad. Emotional eating or stress eating is never a good idea. Secondly, people eat their food while watching something on TV or scrolling on their phones. When you do so, you are likely to end up overeating.

One study by Cornell University also shows you are likely to consume more than required food when you eat out of larger bowls. So the key here is to avoid eating out of containers directly. You can serve the ...
... food in smaller dishes and refill only if you have the appetite for more. Simply put, replace mindless eating with mindful eating.

2 – Food binging

Consuming a large amount of food in one sitting is unhealthy for you. Some signs of endless eating are – you skip meals and then end up overeating to compensate for missed meals. You might eat under restrictions during the week but spoil yourself with junk food over the weekends. You tend to eat beyond the point of feeling full. If you have any of these signs above, you are probably a binge eater.

Ideally, you should only eat as much your body requires. Eating surplus food does more harm than good to your health. So the next time you go looking for momos near me and planning to binge on it, keep in mind not to gorge yourself. When you eat only as much as your body needs, you not only get to enjoy the flavourful food but also reap its health benefits.

3 – Not drinking plenty of water

60% of the human body is merely water and thus, drinking enough water throughout the day keeps you healthy. Staying hydrated keeps your skin supple, and helps your body cool down when it gets hot outside. It also helps your joints and muscles function better. And lastly, drinking plenty of water flushes out the toxins from your body.

There’s no one size fits all when it comes to the number of glasses of water one should be drinking. The best way to figure out if you’re hydrated or not is by monitoring your urine colour; clear or pale yellow colours indicate that your body is hydrated.

4 – Skipping your breakfast

It’s true when they say that breakfast is the most important meal of your day. People tend to skip breakfast while rushing to get things done in the morning. It might be preparing your child for school, or rushing to your office, no matter how stuffed your morning schedule is – you must set some time aside for breakfast.

When you skip breakfast, your metabolism takes a dip and you’re likely to have lower energy levels throughout the day. Even worse, you might end up overeating through the rest of your day. Therefore, having a wholesome breakfast is a great way to keep yourself healthy. It fills you up with energy and zeal to take on all the tasks the day has to offer.

5 – Eating too quickly

Eating food aggressively doesn’t allow time for your brain to catch up with your digestive system. Your brain usually signals your stomach that you are full only 15 to 20 minutes after you started eating. If you have the habit of eating in a hasty manner then you might end up eating more than you need in a matter of 10 minutes.

One research also shows that eating too quickly often leads to packing on more kilos. However, it’s easy to fix this. You have to consciously partake in small bites and also make sure that you chew your food properly before gulping it down. Mindful eating can help you fix the habit of eating too much too quickly.

In the end

Following healthy eating habits doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy your favourite chicken momo recipe. In fact, you must indulge in all the delectable preparations out there, but not at the cost of negatively impacting your health.
