Digha - A Paradise For Seafood Lovers

Digha is a paradise for both nature lovers and big foodies. And if you are both, this small town is awaiting your footfall. Coastal delicacies have a royal place on India’s culinary map. These recipes are celebrated in both coastal regions and other places across the nation.
If it comes to Digha, seafood is served in all hotels. However, there are some reputed names such as Hotel Utopia where a wider and more lip-smacking variety of seafood delights is served with love to the guests. It is the best hotel in Old Digha. This seaside town never fails to fascinate foodies with its scrumptious seafood choices.
Food Fiesta in Digha
Digha is a prominent weekend destination for the Kolkatans. The quaint and quiet town is only a few kilometres away from the City of Joy. Its proximity to Kolkata has amped up its appeal to city dwellers. This idyllic beach town is synonymous with sea, sand and the sun and last but not least, mouth-watering seafood.

What to Try?
There are so many that it will take several write-ups to cover all of them. I will share some of my personal favourites. Here are those for the foodie in you.
Pomfret Fry: Fresh pomfret fries with lemon slices and fish sauce are a must-have on the menu for many Digha-bound travellers. With rhythmic whispers of waves carried by the cool breeze and all of you comfortably enjoying talks on a hotel balcony, a plate of crispy pomfret fries served with hot coffee will build up a royal and romantic feel.
These fries are sold at seaside stalls and also served at all hotels. If you are buying it from a stall, make sure to choose a fresh catch and get it fried before your eyes. If not served hot, the crispiness of fish fries gets lost and it never tastes good.
Tiger Prawns: Tiger prawns, also called jumbo prawns, are abundant in all Digha hotels. Prawn is a favourite among many people. The local people and hotels in Digha whip up different prawn preparations and of all these, prawn malai curry is my all-time favourite. The tiger prawns are cooked in coconut-tomato gravy and flavoured with lots of spices. It is a dish to die for.
Another weakness for me is daabchingri. The simplicity of its presentation is a statement in itself of style and sophistication.
Crabs: A weekend vacation in Digha is incomplete without joyful digs into the soft, spicy flesh of crabs. Crab curry is an eternal fascination for me and I know, many of you feel your mouth watering at its mention. The cooked-to-perfection and packed-with-flavours crabs coated with rich, spicy, creamy gravy are an absolute delight for all foodies. Usually, the luxury and other well-known hotels in Digha serve king crabs as they are meatier and yummier to taste.
Pabda Fish Curry: It is another much-loved delicacy for the Bongs. Both pabda fish fry and curry are awesome. Pabda fish fries taste best when paired with steamed rice and dal. For me, the curry version is a preferred choice as the fishes taste tender and divine when cooked in rich, spicy mustard gravy.
