The Process Of Linking A Mobile Number With A Bank Account
When you open an account, the bank needs you to fill out personal details like your name, address, mobile number, and email address. The bank registers your mobile number and sends a notification every time you make a transaction. These notifications allow you to track your transactions and alert you in case of fraudulent activities. Hence, link your mobile number to your Bank Account.
You may have received calls from your bank to link your mobile number to your account. However, given your hectic schedule, you do not find time to complete the task. But the good news is that you need not do it offline. You can do it online or visit the nearest ATM. Here are the steps on how to link phone number with Bank Account online.
Linking through Internet Banking
Log in to your bank’s portal using your credentials.
Look for the ‘My Account’ tab on your screen and click on the ‘contact number’ tab from the given options.
Choose the account you need ...
... to link with your mobile number if you have multiple accounts.
Once selected, you get redirected to the contact details page. Here, add or update an existing mobile number.
Now, enter your mobile number. The portal prompts you to enter your mobile number twice to ensure complete accuracy.
Click on the ‘confirm’ button.
On doing so, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter and click on submit.
The bank processes your mobile number link to Bank Account request within hours. You receive an SMS notification once your number gets linked.
Note: You can also complete the mentioned procedure by downloading the Banking app.
Linking through ATM
Visit the nearest bank ATM you hold an account with.
Insert your Debit Card and enter your PIN as the screen prompts.
Go to the main menu and click on the ‘register mobile number’ option.
Enter your 10-digit mobile number.
Once you enter your mobile number, you receive an OTP.
Enter and click on the confirm button.
Like the online procedure, your mobile number gets linked to your Bank Account within hours. You receive an update through SMS about it.
The process of changing or updating mobile number
If you need to link mobile number to Bank Account and wish to change or update it, it is possible online. You need to choose ‘update/ change’ on the Online Banking portal instead of ‘link mobile number’. Other steps remain the same.
Watch out for the SMS alerts you receive from the bank. At times, fraudsters change your mobile number to receive OTPs. If you have not initiated the request to change your mobile number, reach out to the bank immediately.
