Did you know about Night Queen? It is a flower that is also called 'night-blooming jasmine'. Why? Let's understand it.

Night Queen is a flower that is native to India, Southeast Asia, and the Central American region. The scientific name for this flower is Nyctanthes arbor-tristis which belongs to the Oleaceae plant family. It bears white flowers with orange tubes that are very attractive.

It smells like jasmine but is not actually jasmine. The sweet floral aroma is similar to that of jasmine flowers. This is the reason why some people often get confused between both of them.

But it got the name because of the fact that the flower booms at night. This makes it different from other flowers. That is why the perfume oil obtained from it, called Night Queen Attar, is recommended to be applied at night. Even when this perfume oil is made, the flowers are plucked at night for further distillation.

This oil is also exported to France where some premium perfumes have this fragrance as a top note. That is giving this flower the international recognition ...
... it deserves.

There are some amazing therapeutic and medicinal benefits as well. It was once used as a popular ingredient in skin care products. There are also medicines made from it in ancient civilizations, especially as a natural sleeping agent.

Night Queen's history in India
Night Queen flower is known as Raat Rani in India. That means something used to beautify the skin and was once used in cosmetics. That also gave it religious importance in Hinduism. Many Hindus offer this flower during the worshipping of gods and goddesses. The perfume is also applied to all the devotees in the temple.

And all this still happens nowadays. It is also very beautiful looking, so there are some decorations and ornamental uses for it as well. You might have seen this in some temples if you ever visited India.

So now you understood what is Night Queen flower and why it is called night-blooming jasmine.
