Low back pain is the second most common complaint in patients and if you combine that with bowel problems, well, the suffering doubles. Quite often the two problems can be linked, and if you are able to cure one, you may be able to cure the other problem as well. Low back pain occurs in over 85% of adults younger than 50 and statistics show that between 15-20% of all Americans has had at least one episode of low back pain, which affects men and women equally. Pain in the lower back is the most common cause of work-related injury and disability in the U.S.

Suffering from low back pain and bowel problems simultaneously is actually more common than most people realize. Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS is a condition that causes bowel and abdominal pain, and while there is very little that is known about this state of affairs, many believe that it can contribute to low back pain. Some patients who complain about the problems related to IBS are led to believe that the symptoms are sometimes imagined or even psychosomatic, such as having an attack after a stressful situation.

If you are experiencing lower back pain and ...
... there is any kind of nerve damage, this can affect the bowels and abdomen. Some researchers and doctors speculate that if a patient is complaining of lower back pain and bowel problems, the link may lie in the fact that the lower backs muscular pain can disrupt the nerve flow to the digestive tract and internal organs.

There are many therapies and remedies to consider when addressing either low back pain or bowel problems. It also stands to reason that by fixing the lower back pain, you may be able to alleviate the bowel problems. Maintaining your stress level, physical therapy or even seeing a chiropractor are all ways to start addressing a healthier lower back. Deep tissue massages and sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs also help in the aid of the healing process. If you are on your feet a lot, wear flat shoes or at least make sure that there are good arch supports in your shoes. Try to avoid continuous heavy lifting, and if your job is physical, be aware of your limitations. There are many things the average person is able to do to become proactive in the aid of keeping ones back healthy and strong.

If you are feeling lower back pain and heating pads, ice packs and ibuprofen are not helping, make sure to see you doctor and find out if it is anything serious. If you have the added ailment of a bowel condition along with your lower back pain, then taking the time to see you doctor is even more important. Only your doctor can make the correct diagnosis, and if you are experiencing discomfort for a period of time, self-medicating and hoping the pain will go away is not the correct way to take care of one of the most important parts of your body.
