SEO services and PPC services are both used by many online marketers to help them develop their businesses and bring more traffic to their website. They both focus on a very different area of website promotion, but they each have a very important role to play.

SEO - or search engine optimisation as it is also referred to - is all about making sure your website has the right search terms so it does well in the organic search listings. Organic listings are those which are produced in accordance with a search someone makes. So instead of the website owner paying to receive results, they optimise their website in the hope of reaching the top of the search engine rankings in an organic way.

PPC services relate to pay per click methods for getting seen in search results. You will probably have seen sponsored links when you look at a search results page; these are PPC adverts that the owners have paid to receive placement on. These ads also appear on countless websites all over the internet.

So which of these methods is best for you to use when it comes to finding the best way to promote your site?

It ...
... can depend on a number of factors, and indeed many website owners use both to attract the attention of the audience they want to reach. A good example is the kind of budget you have available to work with. Some major companies will have thousands (if not more) to spend on a PPC campaign. But individual business owners may not be able to afford a campaign at all during the early stages of their business life.

You can certainly work on using SEO methods to help your website rank higher in the search results, without investing in PPC methods at all. But if you want to run a PPC campaign you should still focus on making sure your website ranks well in the organic results, by having the right keywords in place as well.

So in essence then, both of these aspects of promotion online have their own relevance. They both hold an importance which is worth thinking about, because if you focus on one to the detriment of the other you won't get results that are as good as they could have been.

It definitely pays to learn as much as you can about search engine optimisation, even if you are using pay per click methods as well. If your budget should run out for example, you need to know your website is fully optimised so you can still rely on getting reasonable or good results in an organic way instead. Without SEO, you won't get the best results you possibly can for your website.

Understanding the difference between the two is crucial as you develop your website. The more you know, the more your website will benefit as a result.
