Armed or unarmed security guards are the two main types of security guard. The difference between the two is whether or not the guard is armed with a weapon.

Armed Security Guards
Armed security guards are licensed to carry a firearm while on duty. They are trained to use their firearms safely and effectively in case they need to defend themselves or others during an emergency situation. The use of a gun is not always necessary for an armed guard to be effective in his job. Most guards will only draw their gun if they feel threatened or if it becomes necessary to detain someone who is posing a threat to others.

Unarmed Security Guards
Unarmed security guards do not carry guns while on duty, but they still have many other tools at their disposal when it comes to keeping the peace and maintaining order at your event or location. Unarmed security guards often carry batons or pepper spray as weapons, which can be used to subdue threatening individuals ...
... without causing serious injury (unlike guns). However, these tools are often not enough for an unarmed guard to handle large crowds or groups of unruly people who don't want to follow the rules. In this situation, you may need additional help from law enforcement officers.

Before deciding on either option, consider the following factors:

Location: Do you have a high-traffic area or a low-traffic area that needs protecting? If your company has a high-traffic area, then you may want to invest in an armed guard who can deter crime. If your company has a low-traffic area, then an unarmed security guard may be sufficient for your needs.

Security Needs: What kind of protection does your business require? In many cases, an unarmed guard may offer enough protection for smaller businesses or those with low-to-medium risk factors. Having an unarmed guard on duty may also help keep insurance rates low if you're looking to save money on your monthly premiums. An armed guard might be necessary if there's a high risk factor associated with your business and/or if your location is known to be dangerous at certain times of day (e.g., night).

There are pros and cons to both sides.

Armed security guards are more intimidating, but they also pose a greater risk if something goes wrong. Unarmed guards can be less intimidating, but they may not be able to protect themselves or your employees in an emergency situation.

Second, how many guards do you need? If you have a large building with multiple entrances and exits, you probably want at least two guards on duty at all times — one stationed at each entrance. If your business is smaller and has fewer exits, one guard may be sufficient.

Third, what kind of uniform should they wear? The type of uniform that your security guards wear depends on the type of security services you need them to provide. For example, if they will be protecting sensitive equipment such as computers or other electronics equipment, then they should wear a uniform with long sleeves so that they don’t get fingerprinted by touching anything while working in your office space.
