What is a root canal?
When the inner nerve of a tooth is decaying or dying, you may experience extreme pain in that area. When the nerve of a tooth dies or is infected, it triggers a process called “internal resorption” where the tooth erodes from the inside. Treating it with a root canal preserves your tooth so that it doesn’t need to be extracted.

Is treatment painful?
Root canal treatment has the reputation of being severely painful. However, the team at Ooralea Dental treat this as any other procedure. The only difference is that the procedure extends further into the tooth. We will anesthetize the tooth area to numb it and may prescribe some medication prior to the procedure to assist the process.

Do I need a root canal?
We may recommend a root canal procedure if you:

• A large cavity that extends into the nerve
• Chronic pain or toothaches
• An active abscess
• Fractured roots
• Nerve death, due to a previous traumatic injury
