Ever since the inception of air conditioners, people have learned one thing. They keep the room’s temperature moderate and increase the electricity bill massively. But that’s just the traditional concept of an AC that used excessive power and bloated the electricity bill.

Cut to the modern era, and you get the latest innovations like inverter AC 1.5 ton. As a homeowner, installing an AC in your room is a prerequisite, especially in a country like India.

So, it’s always noteworthy to opt for an energy-efficient unit that won’t raise your bills heftily. Since you are a beginner here, enlisted below are parameters impacting electricity consumption. Reading these aspects will help you gain a better understanding.

#1. Size of Your Room

Air conditioners get rated in watts. However, they don’t usually consume the same each time. Most 1.5-ton ACs get rated for 1.5 kW to 2 kW. However, their consumption varies in different setups. An air conditioner’s job is to remove humidity and heat from an enclosed space. So, it consumes the electricity ...
... required for that particular space.

Suppose a 1.5-ton AC gets installed in a 150 sq. ft. room. It will consume a particular amount of electricity in an hour. And it will be higher when compared to a room size of 140 sq. ft. For the latter one, it consumes lesser utility bills.

#2. The Number of Individuals in a Room

Your body emits heat depending on the metabolic rate. Thus, more number of individuals means more amount of heat in the room. As a result, more cooling is compulsory. Suppose a class of 150 sq. ft. has 40 kids. In such a case, a 1-ton AC might not do enough to decrease the room’s temperature. That means more tonnage of AC should get installed to cool that classroom.

#3. Locations or Temperature of the Region

Different cities have different temperatures. While some are hot, others are either cold or humid. An air conditioner has two jobs – (1) to cool the air & (2) to eliminate humidity. If the city is hot, most electricity gets consumed to bring the temperature down.

However, for humid cities, the electricity consumption will be more. An AC installed in a humid location will produce a different amount of electricity. Basically, the consumption is less in a city with moderate or low temperatures.

#4. Electrical or Electronic Appliances that Emit Heat

Whether it’s a computer, laptop, or mobile phone, they may emit heat after a long operation. In general, electrical and electronic appliances emit heat in an air-conditioned room. Even lights and bulbs do the same. The heat gets consumed by the AC when turned on. Thus, when the room has too many electrical or electronic devices, it requires more air conditioning. That’s how energy consumption rises.

#5. How Stuffy Your Room Is

To understand this parameter, let’s take the example of a warehouse. A warehouse loaded with materials requires heavy air conditioning. That’s because each object kept in that space requires cooling. Each solid object is the heat conductor. Thus, a lot of objects kept in a room means more cooling.

On the contrary, a well-organized room will improve aesthetics and reduce electricity consumption. Keeping the room less stuffy will reduce the electricity used by the AC.

One quick note: Before buying an air conditioner online, remember that walls absorb heat. So wall insulation is also significant.

#6. Spaces that Requires Getting Cooled

The space to cool is another deciding factor to consider. You can optimise the space by closing the room. The space is more if the room has open furniture (like an open wardrobe without doors). So, the space required for cooling is another parameter influencing electricity consumption.

An Extra Tip

Note that darker colours absorb more heat. Here, colours in the room do not mean the wall colours. So, if the room’s curtains are dark, they will absorb more heat. If every object in the room is dark in colour, your AC will take more time to cool. While most of these things are unavoidable, you can at least change your curtains with lighter coloured ones.

These parameters impact the air conditioner load, thereby impacting your electricity bill. So, you need to optimize your room in an organized way before buying the best 5 star inverter AC.
