Now about the 2021 notification, I have already mentioned in the sections above that 712 vacancies were announced in the UPSC recruitment memo for the various civil services posts in 2021. In general, every annual UPSC recruitment memo announces a vacancy strength of 700 to 900+ for such posts.

However, owing to the number of students that apply annually to compete in the UPSC exams, which nears almost a million, the success percentage in the IAS exams is approx 0.2 %. That is a stringent figure indeed, but you shouldn’t worry.

That’s because a lot of the people that apply in the UPSC CSE recruitment process don’t really show up on the day of the exam. Let me give you an example. In the year 2018, out of the million-plus candidates that had applied for the recruitment process, only about half of them actually showed up to take the prelims exams.
