Attractions Of Nice
Nice is a popular tourist destination on the French Riviera, benefitting from a warm Mediterranean climate, and a rich history that has left a legacy of fine buildings that must surely have contributed to the city earning the sobriquet: ''Nice le Belle'' (Nice the beautiful). Here are a few of the sights to see.
The Cours Selaya Flower Market is perfect for the early bird, as the best time to see the market is probably around 6:30, just as the vendors are setting up and the bulk of the other tourists are in bed or at breakfast.
The market and surrounding area is a good place to get to know, both for eating out, and finding a nice bar. The seafood restaurants around this area are some of the best in the city.
Nice is split into two halves: Old and New, and Old Nice is right next to the market. The picturesque alleyways and narrow streets host many of the best bars in the city, as well as more shops and restaurants.
Nice Cimiez is above the city centre in the hills, and is home to the must-see Matisse museum, as well as the ruins of a Roman amphitheatre, and an archaeology museum.
The Promenade ...
... de Anglais runs right alongside the coast of the Mediterranean, and is one of the most popular tourist locations in the city, with many cafes and restaurants.
Le Chateau was once a castle, and while only a few ruins remain, this park is well worth visiting for the views afforded of the city and coastline.
For the full-on tourist experience, the pedestrian-zoned Rue de France is full of street performers and souvenirs, as well as a nice spot for a coffee and a slice of people watching. I found Nice Hotels online at sites like Octopus Travel. #Pen Name is a part-time travel writer and the author of this article about the attractions of Nice. Bonny Kominek recommends checking out Octopus Travel when looking for Nice hotels.
