1888 Press Release - Part 1: Flying Lessons is the first of a fun-filled adventure series for young readers.

BOSTON, Mass. - Author Stephen J. Devaney and his son Kevin J. Devaney have teamed up to produce the first book of the adventure-packed series Josh and Andy’s Spectacular Flying Adventures. Illustrated by Tonya Grifkin, this children’s picture book is written for boys and girls ages four to six.

The story trails the exploits of Andy, a flying squirrel, and Josh, a chipmunk. Adventure unfolds when a radio control model airplane smashes into their tree. Josh and Andy team up to fix it using string, glue, popsicle sticks and some old-fashioned elbow grease and soon the model airplane is ready to fly again. As the airplane takes off with Josh in the cockpit, a wild adventure unravels over the skies of Bayfield, WI. But with teamwork and a little luck, the furry chipmunk and plane are guided towards safety.

“Kevin and I are delighted to see this story brought to life with the help of Tonya’s illustrations,” says Stephen. “We have gone into painstaking detail to ensure that it is accessible ...
... to as many children as possible. For example, we have deliberately selected the primary colors and artwork style work well within the autism spectrum.”

“Josh and Andy’s Spectacular Flying Adventures is a wonderful children’s story filled with excitement,” adds Kevin. “The book introduces young readers to the adventures of flying as it follows the escapades of Josh and Andy. But most importantly, it emphasizes concepts such as teamwork, creativity, ingenuity, problem solving and resilience—essential lessons in early childhood education.”

Josh and Andy’s Spectacular Flying Adventures Part 1: Flying Lessons can be purchased online through SDP Publishing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other retailers.
