Riding Kid's Atvs - What Should You Do To Prevent Your Kids From Injuries
All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are motorized ride-on adventure sports vehicles used for recreation and other activities. It can be dangerous when used by children and young riders who lack the knowledge, physical size, strength, and motor skills to operate it safely.
Children and youth younger than 16 years old should not be allowed to operate ATVs. It is because the Kids ATVs can weigh over 300 kg (661 lbs) and can reach high speeds. Kids (younger than 16 years) don’t have the knowledge, strength, better judgment skill, and maturity to operate such Powersports vehicles safely. There is a high risk of injury while riding ATVs. However, many children and youth do use them, primarily for recreational purposes.
Each year, many children and youth are seriously injured or even killed while riding on an ATV. While these vehicles' basic designs pose serious risks, the most common causes of ATV crashes are driver error, carrying more passengers, judgment error, and lost control while riding. A little care and precaution can save you from ATV crashes or head injuries or bone fractures or serious injuries that require hospitalization. ...
... An injury is more likely to happen when a Kids ATV is not operated according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Are you a parent who owns or wishes to get a new Kids ATV for your loving kid? Please tell your kids to follow a few guidelines:
Ride only four-wheeled vehicles: Injuries are more likely to occur on three-wheeled ATVs, which are more unstable than four-wheeled vehicles. Kids should avoid riding three-wheeled ATVs. Most Kids ATV models are designed to be used by one person (above 16 years) in off-road areas but not on public roads.
Don’t bring more passengers together while riding: Most ATVs are meant to be used by a single driver. Kids ATVs are designed for single riders and they should never take extra passengers. Extra passengers are generally affecting the vehicle’s balance and make it hard for the kids’ driver to control the ATV. Children and teens younger than 16 years old should never ride with passengers.
Wear proper safety gear: ATV drivers and passengers should always wear a certified safety helmet while riding the kids ATV. It will reduce fatal head injuries. Apart from a helmet, the kid's rider should use protective eyeglass, proper clothing, boots, and gloves to keep them safe from minor scratches & major injuries. Be sure to wear shatterproof goggles and not just sunglasses.
Take proper training before riding: Parents must teach their kids the basics of riding an ATV. It is good if they should allow their kids to take an approved training course. The training let the kids know the riding skills, manoeuvring, judgment, control and knowledge.
Always advise riding at a safe speed. ATVs are Powersports vehicles and they will run faster. When ATVs get going fast, they become less stable and more likely to tip. Be sure to ride carefully and with a limited speed on the trails. It will be helpful to make your turning softly and avoid the difficulties and danger while riding.
Conclusion
Get a kid’s ATV that's right for the size and age of your kids. Full-size kids' ATVs can weigh more than 600 pounds and be very difficult to handle. Select a kid’s ATV designed for your kid's age group, as shown on the manufacturer's warning label affixed on the vehicle. you need to prepare yourself first if you are going to train and supervise your child! The best thing you can do is provide an ATV Rider Course to your child. Make sure you are familiar with the ATV that you purchase for your child. Read the Owner’s Manual, take note of any warning labels on the vehicle, and familiarize yourself with the controls so that you can guide your kids easily.
