ISO 14001 requirements offer a framework and guidelines for creating the environmental management system so that anyone does not miss important elements needed for an EMS to be successful.

ISO 14001 standard has become the international standard for designing and implementing an environmental management system. The ISO 14001 standard is published by ISO, an international body that forms and distributes standards that are acknowledged worldwide. The most recent version of the environmental management system requirements was released in 2015, and is mentioned as the “ISO 14001:2015 standard.” The ISO 14001 standard was decided upon by most member countries before being released and updated, and as such, it has become an internationally recognized standard accepted by most countries around the world.

... system. Here the seven sections of the ISO 14001 structure are mentioned below:

• Context of the organization – In the context of the organization section discussions about requirements for understanding the organization in order to implement an EMS. It also includes the requirements for identifying internal and external problems, categorizing interested parties and their potentials, defining the scope of the EMS, and finding the processes required for the EMS.

• Leadership – The leadership requirements cover the need for top management to be instrumental in the implementation of the EMS. Top management needs to demonstrate commitment to the EMS by confirming environmental commitment, defining, and communicating the environmental policy, and assigning roles and responsibilities all over the organization.

• Planning – Top management must also plan for the ongoing function of the EMS. Risks and opportunities of the EMS in the organization need to be measured, environmental objectives for development need to be acknowledged and plans made to achieve these objectives. Furthermore, it is required for the organization to assess all the ways in which the organizational procedures interact and affect the environment as well as the legal and other assurances that are required for the organization.

• Support – The support section deals with the management of all resources for the EMS and includes requirements around competence, awareness, communication, and controlling documented information (all the ISO 14001 documents and ISO 14001 records required for the processes).

• Operation – The operation requirements deal with all features of the environmental controls required by the organizational procedures, as well as the need to identify potential emergency situations and plan responses so that organizations are prepared to respond should an emergency occur.

• Performance evaluation – In the performance evaluation section, it contains the necessities desired to make sure that can monitor whether the EMS is effective well or not. It includes monitoring and measuring the developments, assessing environmental compliance, internal audits, and continuing management review of the EMS.

• Improvement – In the last improvement section includes the requirements needed to make the EMS well over time. It includes the necessity to assess process nonconformity and take helpful actions for procedures. Above all seven sections are based on a Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, which uses these elements to implement change within the processes of the organization in order to drive and maintain improvements within the processes.

During all the seven sections the following documents must be available to acquire a document.

• Environmental risk assessment reports
