Digital electronic weighing scale is a device used to measure mass or weight. It works with the use of a strain gauge load cell. If you see the analog scales, it uses springs to indicate the weight of the object, while digital scales convert the force of a weight to an electric signal.

What does this scale measure?

The answer is force! And the way in which the scale is constructed. This display the human weight in newtons. But, in normal it will indicate the weight in kilograms.

The Kamtech Weighing Scale is split into two parts for understanding. The first part is the sensing part and the second one is the processing part.

The sensing part – essentially has a collection of sensors that measure the weight and convert it into an electrical form for processing.

Processing part – this receives the signal and displays it on the LCD for a readout. The sensor that is used for measurement is known as load-cells.

Basically, a load cell is a transducer, – which means it converts one form of energy into converts a force into an ...
... electrical signal. The load cells have a set of strain gauges that deformed while applying pressure. This is measured as an electrical signal and is suitable for processing.

The fact that applied strain changes the electrical resistance of the wire. Usually, a load cell has 4 strain gauges that are connected as a Wheatstone bridge. One can view a collective output of 4 strain gauges obtained in the order of a few millivolts. The arrangement looks like the object placed on the platform exerts the force on the item placed beneath it.

The transducers then generate an electrical signal that is amplified by the use of a high-quality signal amplifier for it to be suitable in the ensuing sections of the electronics in the device.

After the amplification signal is taken out by the processing part, then it converts the analog voltage into a digital form with the help of a precision analog to digital converter then it will display on the digital readout.

This part of processing and digital read-out is handled by the use of the Microprocessor Control Unit (MCU). Based on design necessity, it performs other necessary operations. It is the maintenance of zero adjustments, statistical data, interface to a PC system, etc.

Usually, the care is taken to calibrate the devices before they are used. Why this is performed? It is because of the uniqueness of the components used in them. This is the major step, without which the device provides you with the wrong reading.
