Pets, much like their masters, can get sick, and therefore they need our love and care, because they are like family members that become part of our lives until that sad day when they are no longer with us.
So we make sure we take them for their check-ups and vaccinations at regular intervals. During such visits the vet may pick up any underlying health problems that may need treatment, and even surgery, whether we live in Greeley, Colorado, nearby or anywhere else for that matter.
The need for surgery, of course, is often the result of injuries sustained in the past, or because of a fight with another animal, a vehicle hitting it or because they have hurt themselves while playing, running or jumping from heights. • Spaying and neutering –among the most common forms of pet surgery to prevent unwanted litters and, often, to help certain cancers from developing, such as those relating to the pet’s reproductive organs. Recovery never takes long, and your pet will be as normal and playful as before.
• Different soft tissue surgeries that are performed to remove tumors or cancerous growths or masses – and other surgeries to remove, say, an eye when necessary, to correct eyelid protrusion and a host of other surgeries related to soft tissue.
• Some pregnant pets may require C-sections to make the birth of their young possible. A good veterinarian should be able to offer this surgery and ensure the owner is well informed about the aftercare required so that the pet and her babies will be fine.
• Amputations are often necessary, especially after a serious injury. Good veterinarians with the applicable x-ray machines and equipment perform these.
• A number of orthopedic surgical procedures can also be performed by the experienced veterinarian, for example to assist when the animal suffers from hip dysplasia. A good vet will, if you take your pet in for its regular check-ups, establish in advance whether the pet may be a candidate for future hip dysplasia and will then, if detected early, perform a relatively inexpensive procedure to prevent later dysplasia.
PennHip evaluations, to determine the likelihood of dysplasia developing, can be done when the pup is 4 months old, which is a great way to prevent it from developing. There are other orthopedic procedures, too, which the veterinary surgeon can perform, such as ACL surgery on knees and a number of additional fracture repairs.
• Removal of the pet’s spleen when called for due to cancer, injury or other trauma.
• Removal of foreign objects. Pets often swallow objects, which can endanger their health. The veterinary surgeon can remove such objects during surgery.
• Surgeries to repair, for example, discs and spinal injuries that fall under neurological surgeries.
The above gives and indication of what surgeries pets often need – much like their owners. Good veterinary services offer the above, or some of them, and others, which may require surgery. It is therefore good to always carry the contact number for your pets’ veterinarian on you so you can contact him/her the minute an emergency comes up and, of course, if a surgery has to be scheduled on a specific date, which is decided upon before the time.
Pets deserve more than a home, water and food. They also need medical care from time to time, which the responsible owner will make sure they get. Good vets in your region are always on hand to assist.
