The main objective of an oil additive is to lubricate the engine and between moving parts to reduce friction. But motor oil helps in accomplishing other functions of your engine. Not only does it prevent corrosion, but it removes contaminants. Any form of build-up is reduced and enhances the performance of an engine. Since motor oil cannot do things on its own, the use of oil additives enhances its performance.

An oil additive is a chemical compound that is embedded in base oil during the manufacturing of oil supplements. Numerous types of additives can be used that would enhance the properties of a particular oil for unique applications. An example is an engine oil additive that may be used to help a dirty engine run cleaner or remove blocks in an old engine. Motor oils are known to contain 20–30% additives straight from the shelf. Even the purchase of an engine oil additive online can be used to enhance the oil and engine operation.

Without the use of oil additives, motor oil may not be able to accomplish its necessary functions. But motor oil may lack the use of important additives ...
... due to numerous factors. Gradually, due to oxidisation and decomposition, motor oil degrades over time. The additives that are present in motor oil may be lost due to filtration or settling. However, in some cases, the use of low-quality engine oil may result in the absence of some critical additives during the starting phase due to poor formulation.

Engine oil additives online and their types

There are numerous types of oil additives designed to suit numerous applications or engines. Some of the engine oil additives aim to control the chemical components in oil, prevent corrosion, and disperse deposits. Coming to synthetic and conventional motor oils, they are known to contain a series of various types of additives that have been developed for a particular form of an engine.

An anti-wear additive is known to coat surfaces and engine parts and prevent them from wear and tear. It is a heat-activated oil additive that is known to react with metal and formulate a thin lubricating film. Some of the anti-wear engine oil additive goes on to reduce oxidation and corrosion is prevented.
