Dog Runs – The Solution Owners And Handlers Are Looking For
Almost everybody has heard of a dog run – many have used them and still do so on a regular basis.
So what exactly is a dog run? It refers to that enclosed area where you can let your dog(s) run freely without causing chaos in the garden, on the verandah or even inside the house. Also, it gives them fresh air and freedom to run, play if they like and rest and do their toilet in an area where the owner can later pick it up and wash it off if the surface where they move around, requires it.
These dog runs are temporary arrangements and not meant to be your dog’s home. Here they run and get exercise, and later, when it suits the owner’s, or the dog handler’s, schedule, the dog is taken out of the run and joins the rest of the household or its master if it is a service dog.
Dog runs have certain benefits for the owner that owns a dog that constantly digs up the garden or runs wild otherwise. For example, it helps to ensure the animal can’t cause damage to the property when it is unsupervised, such as when you are at the office or have to leave the property for a short period. Also, it is a safe space ...
... for the animal to move around in with almost no likelihood of getting injured as could otherwise be the case, or worse, get stolen from your property when someone sees it sitting, waiting for you, at the gate.
A good dog run in your yard also has the benefit of enough fresh air outside the home during especially summer months and pleasant weather, as opposed to being cooped up in the house or even apartment. The same is true for the service dog that is loved too: instead of sitting in a kennel all the time when it is not at its master’s side, it has the space to run, play and relax in a run. Dog runs are practical solutions to the demands for safety and relaxation that owners and dog handlers – even farmers where different machines and vehicles are operated all the time – have to ensure their animals remain out of harm’s way.
There are different types of dog runs: some are fairly small and would suit the requirements for a smaller pet such as a lap dog that does need fresh air too, and then there are bigger ones offering more space so you can keep your bigger animal, or even two dogs, in it at the same time. Of course you may have to consider the nature and personality of the dog(s) too as some will always require more room than others because they are young, energetic and active as opposed to, say, an older pet that may just be happy to escape the confines of your home, even if it requires less space to stretch.
What is important is to know what type of dog run to choose for your circumstances, which will influence your choice of run and what borders you will be setting for your pet. Dog runs can be made of different materials and aids, and depending on the quality and type you are looking for, you may want to look beyond a home-made enclosure of a few cut-off branches, a hedge and other material. You may want to talk to the professionals that design and manufacture these dog runs all the time, a service that can advise you about the best options for your property and the dog(s) you want to keep in the run.
There are indeed choices, and with some basic home work you will find the type of dog run(s) you need, and where to purchase it.
