In a loop where you can’t drop cigarettes but want to? Smoking is a habit that goes with difficult efforts. This is so because people associate smoking with time or feelings or social status etc. We all must realize that smoking not only harms the subject but also the people who surround them thereby causing diseases ranging from lung-bronchus disorders to lung or mouth cancer.
When surveyed it turned out around 75% of quitters stop and quit smoking for their family or loved ones. Freud, a psychologist, stated the cause of smoking. He said that if a person is fixated on the anal stage (5 stages of development theory) he is more likely to start smoking at a young age.
Before you embark on this journey to quit, it is evident to know that it's going to be difficult but you just have to keep telling yourself that you can do this. In case of chronic desire, you can remember the reason to quit or even therapeutic measures.
Here are some ways you can keep yourself from smoking-
Identifying when you crave cigarettes
It often happens with ...
... smokers that they smoke at a particular time. This can be after dinner at night or in the evening with snacks. Sometimes it happens that people become stress -smokers or smoke a cigarette occasionally when out partying. Thus identifying the craving can then help you regulate your behavior.
Keep your mouth and hands busy
It is often suggested to a smoking quitter to occupy both their hands and mouth in some other activity to fight the urge to smoke. For instance, you can practice chewing gum and using stress toys to keep your mouth and hand busy respectively.
Join a non-smoker club
There are several non-smoking clubs held where all people wanting to quit gather once or twice a week to discuss their progress and motivate each other. Such clubs also have degrees of badges given as a reinforcement for progress at quitting.
Positive reinforcement
Reinforcement is a process of rewarding your own or some other self for their actions. To permanently quit smoking, you can reinforce or award yourself ranging from little things like a half-day or a brownie to things like taking a vacation etc. Reinforcement helps you to connect the feeling of not smoking to the happiness you get from your rewards. Reminder, do not reinforce yourself in the form of smoking
Exercise
A healthy body results in a healthy and peaceful mind. Along with working out daily, practice meditation. Also, try to keep yourself away from the things that trigger you to smoke.
One starts valuing oneself and their life right from the day one thinks of quitting. Keep this in mind and live a prosperous life with people who makes you ecstatic.
