Sound Healing Meditation - Listening To The Different Tones
Meditating with sound helps you calm your mind and body. It has also proven to be beneficial for people suffering from insomnia, depression, stress, and many other ailments. Since we know how powerful it is, we must also know how we can listen to the different overtones of a singing bowl. Let’s see!
For effective sound healing meditation, it is recommended that you use a singing bowl that has minimum two overtones in addition to the basic tone. For striking the bowl, choose a mallet with medium firmness. Make sure to use the mallet that can produce the bowl’s lowest tone as well as more than one different higher-pitched tones.
Follow the following instructions -
● Approximately three to four inches away from your forehead, hold the rim of the singing bowl. The bowl can be placed on your palms or fingertips. Alternatively, the bowl can be placed on a surface and you can sit in front of it. The surface must be aligned like the bowl’s rim, i.e. in alignment with the forehead.
● Maintain a strong grip on the mallet while loosening your wrist and strike the bowl. For the best result, remove any ...
... jewelry you are wearing in your fingers or hands.
● Striking the bowl will produce polyphonic sounds. Ensure to listen to all the accords simultaneously.
● Now you need to highlight one tone as per your own choice and then concentrate on it. This focussing on a single tone will help you to differentiate it from the rest.
● Concentrate on the tone you've chosen until it fades away.
● You may repeat the practice as often as you like. Once you have exercised with the first tone, now take the same bowl and do the exercise with another tone.
● Apply the same technique to the third tone.
● Please keep in mind that the longer the sounds produced from the bowl lasts, the better chance you'll have of concentrating and meditating without being distracted by having to strike the bowl.
● Most bowls used for sound healing meditation have the ability to produce distinct overtones (more than one). After you've gotten used to this exercise, you might want to enhance your practice by concentrating on different singing bowl tones.
Singing bowls provide both a peaceful and energetic experience. Listening to the pleasant tone, soothing vibrations, and many strong throbbing overtones is a real treat. You can reward yourself with this little present everyday to keep your mind, body and soul at peace.
