Wi-Fi uses radio waves that transmit the information via a frequency. Today we have two radio-wave frequencies which are 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz. Hertz is the measure of frequency of one wave per second, so if you say gigahertz, it is equivalent to one billion waves per second. The higher the number of the frequency, it pertains to the higher amount of data that can be transmitted per second.
