The Cricut is a digital die-cutting machine capable of cutting many different materials for you to use in a plethora of craft projects. You can cut materials like vinyl, paper and with the right cutting blade, some Cricut machines can cut balsa wood, leather, fabric, and even cork.

Are you new to Cricut Machine? Then you might be asking, what is the best beginner project to start with? When I got my Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine, I didn’t know where to start or what to build. I had many ideas for projects, but they all seemed too complicated to try as a beginner project. So, to help all beginners, I’m sharing the ten best beginner projects to use on your Cricut Machine.

Each project in this roundup is an easy, simple, and great option for beginners. If you are ready for summer, you will appreciate these projects because they all relate to summertime. So whether you just bought a Cricut Maker, the Explore Air 2, or the Joy, here is how you can get started.

1. Watercolor Summer Vibes Sign
Making any sign is a great beginner project, especially when buying a premade wooden sign. For the Summer ...
... Vibes sign, I painted some watercolor on cardstock, then used Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine to cut out the design of the bicycle. I glued it to a finished wooden sign and added vinyl to make a unique summer sign.

2. Garden Marker
These garden markers were straightforward to make. I found these premade wooden chalkboard markers and then cut out the permanent vinyl with my Cricut machine. It is my favorite beginner project.

3. Custom Phone Decal
Add some joy to everyday life with a custom phone decal. It is the best beginner project because you can make it as straightforward or as complex as you want with vinyl. Also, most phone cases are flat, so this is an excellent surface for learning.

4. Watercolor Thank You Customized Cards
Another easy watercolor project that looks more complicated than this. With these thank you customized cards, I cut a piece of white cardstock in half size, folded them properly, then quickly painted it with watercolor strokes. Then, I used the Cricut machine to write a Thank You, making it look like a store-bought one. You can also buy prepaid cards on Cricut.

5. Rainbow Summer Glassware
Glassware can be intimidating for a beginner project, but there is nothing to be scared by with permanent vinyl. I found these rainbow-colored glasses and customized them with Sippin’ on Summer Art.

6. Sun Kissed Cosmetic Bag
Cosmetic, pencil, or tote bags are great methods to get comfortable with Cricut. Again, if you’re a Heat Press, it makes this much more accessible. I used infusible ink for this sun-kissed bag. While working with infusible ink can be tricky for a first-time project, using a regular iron-on instead is a great option.

7. Summer Vibes Only Sign
Another hint, but much more straightforward because I only used vinyl. You can also layer in colors or make it extra simple by using just one color.

8. Children’s summer shirt
One of my favorite beginner projects is custom t-shirts. They’re pretty easy to make with Cricut’s Iron-On Vinyl. If you are new to Cricut, you most likely don’t have a Heat Press yet; if so, you can still use your iron. However, if you plan to make iron-on projects a habit, I recommend buying any of Cricut’s Heat Presses.

9. Build Waves Tank
Since I used to be a dress designer, creating graphics has been close to my heart. But with Cricut, anyone can do this. You’ll be shocked once you make your first t-shirt.

10. Release of empty funds
Finally, another easy-to-start project is this Wake Fund Jar. I’ve labeled everything with my Cricut, like water bottles, cookie jars, potted plants; all are great beginner projects. Working with glass or a curved surface is easier than you might think. These ten projects are just a few methods to get started with Cricut.
