The Yamaha R6 is widely regarded as the most demanding track-oriented motorcycle on the market today.
However, finding a secondhand Yamaha R6 is difficult. They've been in business for almost two decades!
What year R6 should you buy? What's the best way to tell if it's been thrashed... or crashed? What are the issues with the R6? And how do you know whether it's true?
All of this and more can be found in my buyer's guide to the Yamaha R6, one of the most amazing motorcycles available today.
Basically, if the YZF-R6 could be bottled and sold on the street, we'd all be addicts. Anything to get enough money for one more blissful hit at 15,500 revolutions per minute, including trading in our homes for shopping carts, hanging around at recycling facilities, and searching through trash bins for cans and bottles.
"I'm not going to rehab." — Motorcycle.com, 1999, on the Yamaha YZF-R6.
Purchasing a motorcycle is a very independent decision. You might adore something, while I dislike it. Everyone has an unpopular point of view.
That is why I make an effort to stick to the facts. And if there ...
... is a subjective judgement, such as how quick something feels or handles, I'll strive to provide a balanced viewpoint that many reviewers agree on.
However, the idea is to have all of this information in one place. You've read this and now know everything there is to know about the Yamaha R6. It's like an encyclopaedia to someone selling a used one. Oh, it's 2006? Yeah, they claim to go up to 17,500 rpm, but Yamaha was caught lying. Bam! There's a $500 discount (or something).
I write these buyer's guides based on a combination of my personal riding experience, reading everything on the internet, and distilling it all into a guide that will help you make the best decision possible.

Which Yamaha R6 is the best to buy?

If money is no object, get a 2017+ Yamaha R6. The electronics package is the primary reason.

It's great to have traction control so you can get up and running faster!
My personal favourite from the previously mentioned collection: get a Yamaha R6 from 2008 to 2009. For a variety of reasons, these Yamaha R6 models are the best to buy: They were equipped with Yamaha's variable-length intake system and had more power than later, emissions-restricted models.

But they're all fantastic, and you won't be disappointed.
