Darker Than Angels
Okay, so there are a lot of nifty things coming in this week, and right now we have to go over the first and fore most: Darker Than Black Omnibus Edition written by Tensai Okamura and Bones, and drawn by Nokiya. This is coming at us from Yen Press, which most of the books this week actually are as well, and I do believe that this is the first omnibus deal coming from them, and by golly they picked a good one. Unlike Viz and Tokyopop who have been issuing compilations of series they’ve already put out (ie: Fruits Basket or Dragon Ball Z), Yen seems to be taking the Dark Horse approach and picking up a new series in the bigger and better format.
For those of you who never saw the Darker Than Black anime, here’s a summation. The celestial bodies of the Tokyo night sky have all disappeared, replaced by strange stars which are linked to Contractors, people who have special powers lack empathy, enabling them to kill at will. Their amorality makes them targets for organizations who seek to use their power for their own ends, resulting in violent clashes all over the city. The most sought after ...
... of these Contractors is the assassin Black.
Now, as for the angel part of this week’s title, Battle Angel Alita: Last Order Volume 13 is finally here. People have been waiting for this book for a pretty damn long time, and I know a lot of Alita fans who have been missing her. Professor Nova move over, there’s a new evil genius in town. Pissaro makes Nova’s biological experiments look tame when his living weapons deploy at the barbaric Z.O.T. Tournament!
There are plenty of other awesome books coming in including Soul Eater Volume 3, (you can squeal now and get it out of your systems), Zombie Loan Volume 9 (for those Peach-Pit fans out there), the new Detroit Metal City Volume 5 (for all the metal-head pervs with hidden nice guys inside), Higurashi: When They Cry Volume 7, Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo Volume 4, and lastly Inu Yasha Volume 49. Whew! See? Lots of exciting stuff. Usually I don’t list quite this much, but these are the kinds of books I know have avid readers that have been waiting for them.
Okay, last note, and completely not manga related, but you know once in a while the Gaming Department makes it’s way into my little extravaganza. Last week Magic: The Gathering released Duels Of The Planeswalkers theme decks. Now, you don’t actually get a planeswalker inside, but the decks themselves are what would be used by Chandra, Jace, Garruk, Lilianna, and Nissa. That’s right, 2 green decks, no white ones. Oh well. They still make great starting decks for people looking to get into the game. They’re mono-color, 60 card decks, and easy to comprehend and play. Plus they come with an M10 booster pack.
Anyway, plenty of stuff for the masses to enjoy this week, can’t wait to see everyone.
Ja Ne!
