Fires are an insidious, devastating occupational hazard. whether it be propane, gas, electrical, or grease, they can bankrupt any company. The most important thing is to manage things correctly after the event. Proper procedure for post fire remediation is a make or break for your business and reputation. If something goes wrong in a one in a million scenario, don't let yourself go under due to mistakes in the aftermath.

The reasons why there are rules

When a building is poorly maintained, things can go up in flames in a matter of minutes. Aging electrical breakers can lead to short circuiting and cause fires. Grease traps that have not been discharged, or kitchen hoods that have not been cleaned, can turn a fast food joint into a death trap. The NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) sets codes, standards and methods for fire prevention involving just about everything. Sadly, the realities of shoestring budgets have meant that these things are not always enforced. Sometimes the right combination of profit motive and neglect can leave one's operation vulnerable. There are lots of good service providers out ...
... there that can save the situation from being totally disastrous.

A scenario

Suppose you have a nasty grease fire that began under the hood and it spread to the floor and roof via the grease trap and hood ducts. The cooktop up is completely charred to nothing, leaving a trail of blackness along the tiled wall and up into the ducts above. Because the ducts were leaky before the fire, this left deposits of grease on the roof. They also caught fire, and destroyed most of the roofing. There were flames that charred the floor tiles, right where the grease trap intake lines descend. What a mess. What to do now?

You will need someone who can sandblast the floor tiles and replace what cannot be scrubbed away. Sodablasting is the best method for most other things, like dishes or metallic surfaces. An electrician will be needed to redo any damaged breakers, wiring and fixtures. An HVAC technician will likely have to service the moving parts (i.e. blower motors, heat sensors) and replace ductwork. Someone with an ozone machine will likely have to deal with the lingering odors too.

All of this must happen in addition to the roof reconstruction. When deciding who to use for this, the best would be an outfit that can take away all of the damaged goods (i.e. torched wiring, liquified florescent tubes and melted heating elements) away with the bad roofing. Nobody wants to deal with any more parties than needed, especially when lawyers get involved.

Look for a company that can take care of the issue through prevention, maintenance, and any unfortunate aftermath if a fire does occur.
