Once you decide to switch to a healthier lifestyle, the first thing you'll find an alternative is sugar. However, when we talk about an alternative to sugar or artificial sweeteners available in the market, one can never be sure of which one to pick. There are nectars available, stevia and monk fruit extracts are also popular. They also come with the claims of being natural and good for health, but let's leave this at the thought that not all claims are 100 percent true. These sweeteners have ill effects, and they all come with their set of drawbacks.

One of the sugar alternatives is dates. Dates have high sugar content made up of natural sugars such as glucose, sucrose, and fructose. Even though dates are high in sugar content, they have a low Glycemic index making them a perfect sweet snack for diabetic patients. They come in several varieties as black khajur, Ajwa khajur, Safawi khajur, dried dates, and so on. You can now even order dates online with minimal effort. Be it black khajur or any other khajur- they have a separate set of health benefits associated with it.

The main question here is how do dates ...
... in natural form replace the sugar in your desserts, milkshakes, or any other sweet that you consume daily? That's when date honey comes into the picture. Date honey is nothing but pureed and filtered dates. To your surprise, it does not really contain any honey, but it has a consistency similar to that of honey. Thus, it is named date honey. Not only natural, but date honey is also vegan. The other names of date honey that are more common in the Middle East are Silan, Rub, or Dvash.

When it comes to the taste of date honey, it isn't sweet or sugary. In fact, it does have a slightly bitter flavor to it. Along with the slight bitterness, it has a very distinct fruity taste. Dates used to make these date honey are either Medjool or Deglet Noor dates. Medjool dates are the sweetest dates in the market, while Deglet Noor has a nutty flavor. If you don't find date honey, you can order dates online and make your jar of goodness. The recipe is super simple. All you need is 6-8 Medjool dates. If not Medjool, then 10-12 Deglet Noor dates. You can amp up the taste by sprinkling a little cinnamon too.

All you need to do is boil the dates in a saucepan. Keep in mind that dates should be submerged in the water. Boil it until dates are all mushy. Let it cool down. Blend it until smooth. Sprinkle cinnamon and store it in a jar. Your jar of natural bounty is ready. You can try it with different fruits or milkshakes. You can try using it with the desserts and see if you can adapt to the taste of date honey. As date honey is made of dates purely, it is rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, fiber, and several essential nutrients. It will boost your overall health and wellbeing. However, in the end, it is still sugar, and anything in excess is a big no-no. Nevertheless, it is still healthier than other sugar sweeteners. Thus, make a healthy choice today for a better tomorrow.
