Eating out can be a lot of fun, but deciding what to order can sometimes be overwhelming when faced with so many choices. Whether you’re headed to restaurants near Castle Hill or a takeaway Castle Hill, knowing what foods to choose and what foods to avoid will help you make smart, healthful choices when it comes to eating out. Here are some helpful tips for choosing the right food when dining out!

Restaurant Specials

Next time you’re at a Castle Hill cafe or restaurant, look over their menu carefully. Are there any specials being offered? Don’t hesitate to ask if they can accommodate special requests. This is also a great time to opt out of some sides and extras so you have more room in your stomach and your budget for one of those specials.

Appetizers

Appetizers are meant to start your meal with a bang, but they can also add hundreds of calories and grams of fat to your meal. If you’re dining out with friends, try splitting an appetizer instead of ordering one yourself. And remember: Most restaurants serve surprisingly large portions! By sharing an appetizer with another person at your table, ...
... you’ll be able to save money!

Main Course

Opt for a main course that’s low in carbs and rich in vegetables. You can ask your server or bartender for suggestions or check out restaurant websites to see what their menu options are.

Side Dishes/Salads

Instead of loading up on French fries, order a side salad or ask if your meal comes with a vegetable. If not, opt for ordering one separately that isn’t covered in butter or cheese. You can also swap out white rice or pasta for brown rice or whole wheat pasta to make it a little healthier. Even though brown rice and whole wheat pasta have more calories than their refined counterparts, they contain more nutrients like fibre and protein.

Drinks

Avoid high-calorie beverages. Many people enjoy drinking alcohol with their meals, but those extra calories add up fast. Your best bet is to skip the alcoholic drinks and stick with water or unsweetened tea, which have fewer calories and no carbs.
