5 Ethnic Wear Mistakes That Most Indian Men Make While Shopping & Styling Indian Clothes
We rarely think about ethnic wear when it comes to personal style and fashion.
Traditional Indian men's clothing is not casual like the printed lungi and is rarely worn on a daily basis. When it comes to special occasions, however, ethnic wear is the best option for any Indian man.
A common misconception about ethnic wear is that putting together an ethnic outfit is a simple task that requires little to no effort. That isn't always the case.
Styling Indian clothing and putting together a great outfit is more difficult than it appears. We make mistakes all the time that we aren't even aware of.
That is exactly what we will discuss today. Here are some of the most common fashion faux pas that most Indian men make when dressing up in ethnic wear.
1. Not Thinking About the Occasion
Even though we mostly wear ethnic clothing for special occasions, it's important to further break it down. Is there a wedding going on? Is this some sort of pooja? Is this a large or small festival? Before selecting an outfit, we must consider all of ...
... these factors.
Sherwanis, jodhpuri kurtas, and nehru jackets are appropriate for formal occasions. Pathani suits, dhoti pants, and cotton kurtas are appropriate for smaller occasions.
2. Not Knowing Your Fabrics
Knowing your fabrics may appear to be a lot of work and research at first, but it isn't. The light fabric has the power to make or break your entire look. Whether it's the fit or the occasion, the fabric is what distinguishes a good outfit from a great one. Silk, for example, is a rich and bulky fabric that is ideal for parties and larger occasions. Before splurging on expensive fabrics, make sure you do your homework.
3. Wrong Hemlines & Lengths
The main component of ethnic wear for men is a traditional kurta. However, we have a wide range of options to choose from. This is where the majority of men go wrong. A hemline is the bottom fold of the fabric, and knowing which hemline is most flattering for your body type is critical.
Always pay attention to where and how your hemline is, whether it's on a short kurta, a medium-length kurta, or a longer kurta. We recommend that you have your hem customised to achieve the desired look.
4. Wrong Footwear Choices
When it comes to casual attire, sneakers are everyone's go-to. And when it comes to ethnic wear, we use the same trick of blindly selecting a pair of black shoes. Even for an all-black outfit, black shoes are a no-no when it comes to ethnic wear over some cool cotton. Colors like browns and blues are far superior. Experiment with different types of footwear, such as mules, loafers, kolhapuris, and sandals.
5. Wrong Neckline
When we go shopping for casual clothes, we pay a lot of attention to the necklines. However, this thoughtfulness is rarely reflected in our ethnic preferences. It's critical to know what flatters you the best, whether it's bandhgalas, round necks, henleys, or collared necklines. This is entirely dependent on your neck and overall height.
The Bottom line
Before you go shopping this holiday season, make sure you're not making these fashion faux pas. Dress to impress and wear appropriate attire!
