Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO):

Professional Engineers Ontario is a licensing authority. It bears the responsibility of the regulation of the practice of professional engineering and governance of its members to serve and protect the public interest by making sure that all professional engineers satisfy rigorous qualifications to attain engineering license. This is because only qualified and licensed engineers practice engineering in the province.

For this, PEO also sets up, maintains, and develops:

• Standard of knowledge and skill
• Standards of practice for the profession
• standards of professional ethics

It also promotes public awareness of its role.

Code of Ethics:

Engineers Ontario’s Code of Ethics is a guide for engineers to let them know professional conduct. It imposes some duties on them, concerning society, employers, colleagues, clients (including employees and subordinates), the engineering profession, and them or themself.
Using the Code of Ethics, the professional engineer has a clear duty to society, which is to regard the duty ...
... to public welfare as paramount, above their duties to employers and clients. The engineer’s duty to employers includes working as a faithful agent or trustee, concerning client information as confidential, and avoiding or disclosing interest conflicts.

The engineer’s duty to clients means that the engineer has to immediately disclose any direct or indirect interest that could prejudice (or appear to prejudice) their professional judgment.

It is stated in the code that it’s the practitioner’s duty to the public, employer, clients, and other licensed engineers of the practitioner’s profession, and to the practitioner to work at all times with,
Fairness and faithfulness to the practitioner’s employers, associates, subordinates, employees, and clients
Fidelity to public requirements

Dedication to high ideals of personal honor and professional integrity
Capability in the performance of any professional engineering services that are undertaken

Knowledge of developments in the professional engineering domain related to any services that are taken on
