How To Keep Your Dryer Drying For Longer

Longevity is something we wish for in all our electric appliances within the home, but oftentimes, we’re not really sure how to prolong their life, or are unwittingly doing things with them that serve only to shorten their lifespan.
Did you know that there are some things you can do to prolong the life of your dryer? And if, like many American households, you use your dryer daily, this has to be good news.
Follow the steps below to help your dryer continue drying, for longer:
Clean the lint screen regularly
Ideally after every load, the dryer screen should be cleaned, and you can do it with a used fabric softener sheet or a soft cloth.
Keep debris away from the area around the lint screen
Lint brushes are a fantastic way of removing any build-up of debris from the housing cavity of the dryer, and once the lint screen has been removed, you can clean it easily with the brush, or simply use the crevice attachment on your vacuum cleaner.
Clean the inside of the dryer
To eliminate stains or smelly residue, you should clean the inside of your dryer at least every month, even ...
... if it looks to be spotlessly clean. Unplug the dryer before using a rag soaked in warm, soapy water to clean the drum.
Clean around and under your dryer
Moisture, grime and lint can easily accumulate all around the edges of your dryer, so be sure to clean it every few months, or more often if required.
Arrange for the ducts to be professionally inspected and cleaned
Regular duct cleaning is one of the most effective ways to ensure that your dryer continues to do its work for as long, and as successfully, as possible. If you have cats or dogs in your home, you might need to have your dryer ducts cleaned at least every six months.
Check to see if your dryer is properly balanced
If your dryer is unbalanced, this could cause the rotating components to wear out far quicker than they would if the dryer was on an even surface. If the dryer bangs or moves around during use, try adjusting the feet to set it on a more even keel.
Inspect the exterior exhaust
Proper airflow is often restricted if there is a build-up of debris in the vent.
Avoiding loading too many items into your dryer
Dryers have to work harder the fuller they are, and if you repeatedly cram it full each time you use it, the dryer may overheat and give up the ghost.
One of the first things you should do if you notice that your dryer isn’t drying as it should, is to have the ducts cleaned by a professional duct cleaning service. This, in conjunction with all of the tips above, will help make sure your precious dryer, lives a long, full life!
