Reasons To Learn A Musical Instrument

If you love music, one of the best ways to be more involved is by learning an instrument and playing it yourself. Whether you’re looking to express your creativity, pass on a family tradition, or just give your life more meaning, there are many reasons why learning how to play an instrument can benefit you – as well as those around you! Music improves people’s lives in many different ways, and if you’re ready to start learning by taking guitar lessons or piano lessons, here are some reasons why that can be such a great decision.
Music Encourages Self-Expression
Developing self-expression is just as important as learning math or language skills. Learning an instrument requires patience and perseverance, both of which are important qualities in business and other social settings. Practicing with an instrument also helps you or your kids learn how to stick with something until they have reached their goal. In addition, self-expression through music can help develop confidence and boost their self-esteem. Plus, music itself is inherently rewarding; it’s hard not to smile when you listen to your favourite ...

Music Improves Brain Development
In one study, researchers found that musicians who started learning before age 7 had larger grey matter volume in regions of their brain linked to spatial-temporal skills, memory, and self-awareness. Another study on mice found that musical experience can influence neurogenesis even later in life. All of these findings highlight why it’s so important for kids and adults to get involved with music and specifically how it improves overall brain health.
Music Can Help Develop Relationships
People who have learned music for at least 6 years report better communication skills than people who don’t play any instruments. These communication skills can be applied to both professional and personal relationships, helping you get along with others in a variety of settings. Playing an instrument can boost your self-esteem: Because playing an instrument is hard work and involves learning technical skills, it gives you a sense of pride when you look back on all your accomplishments and hard work.
Playing an Instrument Teaches Responsibility
Playing an instrument takes discipline. If you have difficulty with time management and other responsibilities, playing an instrument may help get you organised. It also teaches perseverance when things don’t go as planned in music. You might be able to find one or two friends who are passionate about playing music with you, but usually there will be times when practice is on your own, so it helps if you’re self-motivated.
Some people think that you need to be a child in order to start learning an instrument. While children do have certain advantages, there's no reason that adults can't learn music as well. Adults tend to have more patience, self-discipline and time than children; these are very important traits for being successful at playing an instrument. It's never too late!
