Learn To Build, Connect And Troubleshoot Your Own Wireless Connections

Many of us know how convenient it is to be connected to a wireless network. Aside from letting us move while connected to the internet, it also lets us connect all the time at any location as long as we have our wireless device, like a mobile, or if the wireless connection is present at that particular place where we are. You may be wondering how wireless connections are being built and what the things we need to create a wireless network. And what if you have issues with connectivity? What troubleshooting can you do? Take a look at how we can build our own wireless connection and how we can fix it if we have simple issues.
Things you need to build a wireless connection
1. Broadband Internet connection – You can check what is available such as DSL, Cable or Fibre Optic.
2. A wireless router is a device that connects to your internet service provider’s modem.
3. Wireless Devices to Connect to Your Network: These are devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
How to Connect to a Wireless Network
1. Open the system menu on your device.
2. Select ...
... the Wi-fi icon and then the Wi-fi section of the menu will expand.
3. Click Select Network.
4. Click on the name of the network you want, then click Connect. If the name of the network is not on the list, try clicking more. If it is still not on the list, it is either you are out of range or the network is hidden. If it is hidden, just click "Add network" and manually enter the network name.
5. If the network is password protected, enter the password when prompted and click Connect.
6. The network icon's appearance will change as the device attempts to connect to the network.
7. If the connection is successful, the icon changes to a dot, and you will see bars that indicate that it is connected. More bars mean a stronger connection, and fewer bars means a weaker connection.
What to Do When Your Wireless Connection Is Not Showing Up
1. Troubleshoot your wireless connection: make sure there is no problem with the device you are trying to connect to. If the issue is not showing on your device, check all the cables to see if they are connected properly, if it is plugged into a working outlet, and if the device is enabled for wireless connection.
2. Try to properly restart the modem and the router; power cycling the modem and the router can fix the connectivity issues and resolve problems with wireless connections. Both the modem and router must be rebooted.
3. Check to see if the wireless network is hidden – if the network is hidden, it will not appear in the Wi-Fi network options, and in order to connect, the SSID and other network details will be required. This is how you will connect to the hidden network:
• Go to Settings > Network Settings.
• Choose Wi-Fi
• Select "Manage Known Networks" and "Add a New Network."
• Enter the SSID in the Network Name
• Enter the network password in the Security Key box.
• Select "Connect Automatically."
• Select Save. The device will connect to the network if it is accessible.
4. Look for interference: Numerous objects around a home or office can interfere with a wireless router. Some appliances or gadgets may interfere with your wireless connections, such as wireless video game controllers or security cameras, or thick walls or columns.
5. Check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider): If you did all the troubleshooting and did not fix the issue, contact your service provider. There may be an outage in the area, or the equipment you have is defective.
