Gift Exchanges In Full Swing

Christmas is generally seen as a season of gifting and being thankful. Although, you can’t always feel thankful for those gifts you didn't like. Christmas has turned into the season of returns, gift exchanges in full swing due to this problem. Luckily, a lot of stores have brought in return policies, to save these unwanted gifts from being thrown away in the trash. A great example of these policies is the Target Return Policy.
You can take care of these few things and return or exchange a gift for a useful or a worthy one. Let us know in detail.
Don’t Open the Gifts if Possible
Surely you can unwrap your gifts. But please do not unbox or unpackage them. Once you take off the shiny gift wrap, you can know what is underneath from the box or packaging.
If you are unsure whether to keep the gift or get it exchanged or returned, then do not unbox it. Some stores prefer accepting returns and exchanges (Anchor Text) only on those items that are unopened. Hence, refrain yourself from unboxing them. Just in case you change your decision, you ...
... can unbox the gift and start using them.
Save the Receipts
Receipts are generally needed for a return or exchange of an item. Hence, always preserve the receipts of the gifts that you are unsure about. When the holidays are over and you’ve unwrapped all your gifts, you might want to return or exchange the ones that didn’t make a way to your heart.
In such cases, if you have saved the receipts carefully, then you can easily return these gifts and get yourself an item in exchange that you actually wanted.
Holiday Return Policies
There are a lot of stores that run a Holiday Return Policy or an Extended Return Policy for holidays that runs during and after Christmas. Under this policy, you get more time to return than usual.
Check out these Holiday Return Policies and decide upon your return or exchange decision accordingly. There are a lot of relaxations and benefits given in the return policy and exchange policy during the holiday time by most of the stores. Hence, make as much use as you can.
Deadlines of the Extended Holiday Return Policy
The duration of return may vary according to the store’s policy. Similarly, the duration of holiday return policy also may vary. You can check on the store’s online website about their duration of return and exchange or know by calling or visiting the store.
Usually the stores give a duration varies from 30 days upto one year. The duration is decided by the store and it is based upon what they sell. Remember, you’ll know the store’s customer care number and website from the box or package of the gift.
Check out the Exchange Return Policies Also
You might not always want to just return a gift and get the money in exchange. Some gifts may not be useful to use but the store that it was bought from, might hold some useful products for you.
In such cases, you can go for an exchange instead of return. Check out the exchange policy of the store through their website or customer care and get your gift exchanged for a useful one.
Also keep in mind, some stores offer exchanges for only the color or size of similar items and brands. Check these measures also before going in for an exchange.
Non-Returnable Items Under the Return Policy
If you are not as lucky, you might be gifted with such an item that is considered non-returnable at the store it was bought from. In this condition, there is no alternative other than accepting your fate along with the gift.
Although, always check with the store to make sure what items are returnable and what items are not. Just in case, you might surprisingly find that the item you thought is non-returnable can actually be returned.
Return Without Receipt
Yes, it is always good to keep the receipts, but if your gift comes from a store with laidback policies, then you might be able to place a return even if you do not have receipts.
If you have misplaced a receipt, but really want to return the gift, then ask customer care if there is any such provision given. Chances are, if the store decides, then it may actually offer you a return without receipt.
Summary
Even if it may seem unethical and rude to return or exchange a gift, it is always a good idea to get yourself a useful item in exchange. Check the return policies and exchange policies of the store your gift was bought from and make sure about all the rules and regulations and the ways in which you can return. Place your returns only after you are cent percent sure about the policies of the store and your will to return or exchange.
