Kuppali V Gowda Putappa nicknamed Kuvempu (ಕುಪ್ಪಳ್ಳಿ ) was a Kannada language poet. He was born on 29 December 1904 in Shimoga, Kuppali, Karnataka state. His mother's name was Sitamambi and his father's name was Venkatappa Gowda. Ramayana was introduced from a modern perspective in his book 'Sri Ramayana Darshanam'. His home was located at Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1955 for the epic.
