Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic was born September 10, 1974 in Yugoslavia. We now know that area as Vinkovci, Croatia. Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic is best known around the world for his mixed martial arts skills.

His nickname Cro Cop comes from the fact that he was a member of the Anti-Terrorist Unit in Croatia's Special Forces.
Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic is a Heavyweight kickboxer that has found success in every fighting league that he has taken part in up to this point. He has spent time fighting in K-1 and Pride Fighting Championships. He is 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 235 lbs.

Filipovic began as a kickboxer. He began his career in 1996 and continued to kickbox until 2003. His career has a kickboxer brought a fair amount of success. He managed to win 16 of his 23 career kickboxing fights. In his 16 wins, he took 11 of them by means of knockout.

As a kickboxer Filipovic showed toughness that earned him popularity and fame. Filipovic fought matches in which he entered the match with ribs that had already been broken in previous fights. He also beat The Beast Bob Sapp in a match. Sapp was famous for pounding his ...
... opponents into oblivion and had not lost a match to that point. Filipovic broke Sapp's zygomatic bone with a left punch and took out The Beast in just 86 seconds.

In 2001 Filipovic joined the ranks of the popular mixed martial arts scene. Despite being a kickboxer by trade, he has found even more success in the realm of mixed martial arts according to the win-loss column. He has lost just seven matches in his MMA career, the same total that he lost in kickboxing. The difference here is that he has managed to win 27 matches as an MMA fighter. This includes 20 knockouts and 4 submissions. This has left only 3 of his victories to decision in his career.

In 2006 Filipovic found himself on the path to becoming a champion. Filipovic won the Pride Openweight Grand Prix, earning the first notable championship belt that he has ever won. It was significant that he won this title. He had decided before the fight that if he was not able to come through with a victory at that tournament that he would never fight again.

Filipovic began fighting in the UFC after winning his Pride Fighting Championship. He had not seen the same success in the UFC that he had in his career in the past. After losing a few matches he was given an offer to fight in the Dream program that took place in Japan. He said that he was not running away from the UFC and he planned to return at some point in the future. He did mention that he prefers to fight in the ring rather than the cage.

His return to the UFC brought much more success than he had previously. He suffered a tough loss, but then changed his style in order to adapt to the league. He has since decided to retire due to injuries that he has sustained. It is unclear if this is a permanent retirement, or if he intends on returning at some point in the future.
