Places to visit in Nainital: Among the many places, there are some that you should not miss when you are in Nainital.
Naina Devi Temple
According to mythology, one of the burnt limbs of Goddess Sati fell in this town. The locals believe that it was the eye, which is why Nainital is home to one of the Shakti Peethas of India i.e. Naina Devi Temple. That is also one of the reasons why Nainital is the lake of eyes. On a ...
... 1219 meter high hill in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, Raja Bir Chande built a temple in the 8th century. Keep it open from 6am to 10pm so that you have at least one or two hours to visit the temple complex which has three deities. You can attend the 8-day Nand Ashtami event which attracts visitors from all over the country.
Eco Cave Gardens
Known for its interconnected rocky caves, music fountains and hanging gardens, the Eco Garden Nainital has a set of six animal-shaped caves in Mallital. The caves in the garden are like the natural habitat of animals burning with petroleum lamps. Tiger, monkey, bat, panther and flying fox caves are some of the famous caves in the garden. Remember, you have to crawl to get inside the cave, so it's not for toddlers and elders. Open from 10am to 4.30pm you will have to pay a small fee to enter the garden.
Snow Viewpoint
Snow Viewpoint in Nainital is located at an altitude of 2270 m in the mountains. One of the most magnificent places offering spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayas wrapped in milk-white snow blankets. From this point you can see Trishul, Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot peaks together. Check out a large pair of installed binoculars for a closer look. If you want to see the whole town, take a cable car ride from Mall Road to Snow Viewpoint. Try your hand at shooting targets hanging in stalls. For a small fee, you get 6 chances to shoot. For kids, there are other small stalls with fair games that they can play to win toys and other items. Opening hours Sunday through Friday from 10.30am to 5pm.
Things to do: Not engaging in any activity does not lead to a happy holiday. While in Nainital you need to try some things here.
Adventure activities
When you are on vacation at a hill station, you should check for various adventure activities. Try paragliding in Nainital if the weather allows or head to the Himalayan Mini Golf Club for a few fun hours. Even better, go to the 2611 meter high Naina-China peak, as it offers a wonderful 360 view of the area. Look for sunbirds, Himalayan griffon vultures and dense conifers on your way. Another trekking spot is Tiffin Top Track, a quiet 3km trail that ends at campfire in the evening at the base. Snow View and Camels Back Trails are other trekking options.
Shopping for sure
Must buy in Nainital. Narrow street markets are the best places to find a good deal. You can find everything in the city, from branded items to local products and clothing. The Mall Road Market is the most popular street market where you can find souvenirs at bargains. Check out the Tibetan or Bhoti Bazaar, known for its shawls, scarves and women's clothing. Visit Bara Bazaar in Mallital for various range.
