Some Benefits Of Combi Boilers
Boilers or heating units installed in most homes in Britain today are combis, also known as condensing combination boilers. These combi boilers are a combination of a water heater and a gas operated central heating unit. In the United Kingdom, building regulations require that new boilers must be high efficiency rated to reduce carbon emissions. New homes and renovations on existing buildings each must comply with the regulations.
Combis don't heat and store water for domestic use. Instead, there is continuous heated water any time the tap is activated. The boiler fires each time there is a demand for water. Traditional boilers are mainly to heat the space and only secondarily heat and store heated water in a separate tank or cylinder. Combination boilers are usually cheaper than traditional boilers because they are simpler. There are fewer parts to install and maintain.
A combi gas heating systems has many advantages over the traditional boiler. Generally they are cheaper to put into place, simply because there are several components of a traditional system that are not needed for the combi. You won't need a separate ...
... hot water storage tank, for example. You won't be heating up water that is not used. When you have a hot water storage tank, it must heat the water and reheat and reheat it.
The benefit of having constant water heated to the temperature needed for showers, hand washing, dishes and other routine uses cannot be denied. The water is heated as it comes from the main, so there is no energy expended to heat a tank full of stored water when you take a shower. There will be no cold showers because the hot water tank was emptied in the course of a long shower.
Because the hot water is coming from a shower at the force of the main water source, there is no need to add a water pump to increase water pressure. The hot water is continuous and under good pressure so you can enjoy a long hot shower whenever you want.
The combi is not perfect for every household, but in general the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, particularly where the household consists of one or two persons who don't make extensive demands on the hot water system. The savings in energy are so extensive that most users are happy with the new boiler design. Users have two main complains that are registered for use of the combis.
When the weather is cold, the hot water flow may be somewhat less than hoped. The boiler takes a little more time to heat the water because it is colder than usual as it enters the home. So, although the water is heated, it may not be as hot as you would want when taking a hot shower.
Another complaint is caused when there are more than one user drawing on the output of the boiler at the same time. Only so much water is coming into the home. So this amount is all that can be heated for use in the household. You wouldn't be able to take a shower and run a dishwasher at the same time.
