The state of California got Latino Alex Padilla as US Senator representing the state. This resulted in some black leaders being angry and they lashed out. They wanted a recall election and demanded an African American to take the role. Please surfaced from a host of prominent and influential black leaders around the world, to replace Padilla. The nation rejected these pleas.

While African Americans remained upset, this was an immense breakthrough for the Latino community. The senator’s appointment earmarks a shift in the course of history. Padilla’s election took place on the merits of integrity and because he is trustworthy. He will begin his term facing a lot of challenges in 2022 with tough re-election ahead of him.
