While some people sadly have issues with their immune systems more often than not and struggle with it throughout the year, most others tend to have flare-ups and compromised immune systems mostly during the colder months of winter. With the ridiculous and unimaginable levels of pollution that we see in most of our cities, these issues become even more intense. Having viral infections doing the rounds that leave us with throat pain and flu, breathing in horribly polluted air that has us coughing, and in certain areas of the country, the cold that leaves us with dry throats or itchy throats means all of this can seriously take a toll on not only just our immune systems but also our spirits, making us feel down.

There are certain aspects of these sometimes cruel colder months that we simply cannot change or take control of. Although, there are certain precautionary steps that we can follow or put into action to see positive differences in our otherwise compromised immunity. Making tiny changes or moreover little tweaks to your regular lifestyle choices, habits, and routines ...
... can actually prove to be pretty beneficial. Let’s begin with something that’s maybe the easiest of the whole lot of what we all be suggesting today - layering up. If you are lucky enough to be living in one of the parts of the country where it actually gets cold, or it may be even snowing, then you have got to follow this to the T. Before you even think of stepping out of your home, make sure you pick one of your outer layers and only then step out. This goes for no matter where it is you are going, be it to school, university, chores, office, meetings, shopping, or the mall. Just remember to grab your fleece jacket, gloves, scarf, earmuffs, cardigan, and/or beanie, depending on how the day or night is at that given point. You don’t want to underestimate the level of coldness and then end up with a horrible sore throat. So that’s why it is better to just check a weather prediction app before heading out, especially for longer periods of time, or for long outdoor activities. On the other hand, if you happen to reside in a part where it isn’t necessarily freezing temperatures outside, but nonetheless it does get a bit nippy here and there, make sure to at the very least carry a scarf in your bag or a thin cardigan or jacket to keep you nice and cozy. Talking about keeping your body warm, why just stop with the outside of it? Did you know that you can do equal well by sipping on warmer drinks and eating healthy and hot food in the colder months? It’s the very reason we have so many heat-producing and scrumptious winter-only foods around the country. These foods are plenty effective at keeping you warm from the inside while also helping you keep your health in good overall shape. They do this by supplying you with the nutrition it takes to do all of this. From hot homemade stews, vegetable broths, and chicken and pepper soups to undhiyu, sarson ka saag, thukpa, and Gond ka laddoo, no matter what is easily accessible to you or what your tastes buds prefer, make sure to load up of such foods. Like a good cough syrup, a hot chicken and pepper soup can actually prove to be one of the best cough medicines in the sense that it can help ease off certain troublesome cough symptoms. Talking about coughs, in order to keep infections and other throat-related issues at bay, you should definitely try and do steams every now and then and also try and do hot water gargles often. In fact, you can begin or definitely end your night with hot water gargles. Alternatively, if you do have a bit of an itchy or a sore throat, you could add a pinch of salt to the warm or hot water and then do gargles with it. This little trick should surely help ease your discomfort for a while.

Once you see how fruitful these little additions and changes are for yourself, you can actually even suggest it to your other family members and even friends. While on their own these steps might not seem like some great and mighty difference makers, you will actually see a great difference when you actually take on a few of these tips and see them through. So these winter months around, do give them a shot.
