Can You Have Interior Led Lights On A Car?

In a car we have a multitude of lighting elements, and the truth is that with the advancement of LED technology and the redesign of vehicles, more and more. The most common and well-known are exterior lights : short-range lights, long-range lights, front and rear fog lights, license plate lights, etc. However, we also have other types of lighting that raises a recurring question: can you have interior LED lights on a car?
Let's start at the beginning: how many lights can we find inside our vehicle? Commonly known as courtesy lights , not all are considered with this nomenclature, and neither are all susceptible to doubt as to which interior light of the car can incur a fine if we keep it on. Let's see.
VEHICLE INTERIOR LIGHTS
When we think of courtesy lights in a car, the same type of lighting always comes to mind: the one that we can find in the upper center part of the front or rear seats . It is true that it is used a lot with the car in motion, since in combination with the laminated glass of the vehicle, it allows, for example, to ...
... read the passengers in the rear seats during a trip with total discretion and security.
However, with the advent of LED lights and the progress of the years, vehicles have been adding to their configuration another type of interior light in the car that does not have to cause a fine if it turns on. If we stop to think, there are several that have been emerging inside the car: the light in the glove compartment, the ones we have on our feet to guarantee visibility in that area as well, those on the side storage compartments or those that exist in the bottom of the doors are some of the examples of this type of interior lights.
CAN I TURN ON THE INTERIOR LIGHT OF THE CAR WITHOUT A FINE?
And we come to the million dollar question, which is none other than whether having a light on inside the car also means a fine. The answer is not very clear, since the highway code punishes carelessness and misuse of vehicle lights with fines that can start at 80 euros and go up to 200 euros in penalty in the most serious cases. However, it does not clarify in its regulations whether driving with the vehicle's interior lights is penalized.
At this point, it is convenient to apply the logic in terms of safety that we use any element of the vehicle, in this case the interior lights of the vehicle. If we think that these may be making it difficult for other drivers, or even ourselves, to see them, we should turn them off so as not to endanger their safety and ours when driving.
In addition, from Carglass we recommend not turning them on by the driver if this could be a distraction while driving: imagine that you are driving with children in the rear seats and they ask you to turn on the rear interior lights: it may not be that using this car interior light It is a fine, but only that distraction can create a dangerous situation on the road .
Looking for the keys, opening the glove compartment in search of documentation or simply looking at a map by the co-pilot in motion are some of the things they allow us to do. They are really useful, and having a car interior light on should not be associated with a fine, but we recommend not using them while driving as much as possible to avoid possible glare. Safety always comes first!
