Detoxifying your body is important in staying healthy. Especially when you are exposed to toxins every day. From the food you eat, pollutants in the environment, UV radiation from the sun, and products that you use. Failing to excrete toxins from your body can cause organ damage and life-threatening diseases such as: diabetes, liver cirrhosis, and cancer.

There are endless ways to detoxify your body. But not all detox methods are created equal. Some can be expensive as they require taking pills and other detox products which have little scientific proof of effectiveness. While others suggest extreme diet routines like intermittent fasting or liquid diet for 2 to 3 days. Which can make you starve and/or mess up with your digestive system causing gastrointestinal issues.

The best way to detox is to do it naturally. It is safe, effective, and easy to do. Here are some helpful tips you can try.

1. Increase your water intake. Drinking lots of water is more than just to quench thirst. It is critical for your overall health. Water carries nutrients to cells, helps organs function well, aids in digestion, lubricates ...

2. Cut your sugar intake. Many people like sweets and even call them comfort foods. Unfortunately, satisfying your sweet tooth can greatly affect your system negatively. Excess sugar in the body can lead to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

3. Move your body. Exercising regularly encourages blood circulation and increases blood flow which greatly helps eliminate harmful substances from your body. It also promotes perspiration which is a good way to excrete toxins.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Plant-based nutrition is full of nutrients for the whole body. They help burn fats, cleanse the digestive system, and get rid of toxins. Moreover, they are rich in antioxidants which combat free radicals and help repair damaged cells all throughout the body. Fruits and vegetables also contain minimal chemicals compared to processed foods which are full of artificial ingredients and additives that are bad for health.

5. Get enough sleep. Enjoying a good night rest not only recharges your body and uplifts your mood but also allows your organs to function well. This includes your liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, and brain which plays important roles in eliminating toxic substances from your body. Moreover, the brain has its own toxin cleansing system called the glymphatic system which is more active during sleep. This removes harmful substances from that organ preventing neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Toxins accumulate in the body due to bad habits and modern diets which are tempting. Pizzas, burgers, and fries are delicious. Coffee is undeniably delightful especially in the morning or enjoying it with friends. And beer is difficult to refuse when you’re out with co-workers on a Friday night. All of these things bring happiness although they leave guilt in your conscience as you know they are unhealthy.

The good news is you can detoxify your body and get back on track with your health and fitness goals. The key is moderation in consumption of the foods and habits that expose your body to toxins. Practice the detox tips above to keep you healthy.
