Canada is one of the best places in the world for education and that’s the reason it attracts so many international students. The education quality and cost are compared with very few in the world. But living expenses and finding quality accommodation are equally a concern while studying abroad.

So, here are some of the options that can provide easy accommodation to international students in Canada.

1) RESEARCH- Research is the key to every piece of information. So, research well before moving. Search for accommodation near your university. Dorms, single rentals, student-friendly accommodation. Decide your budget and list out the places accordingly.

2) ON-CAMPUS OPTIONS-
- Dorm rooms – these are usually for first-year students; or
- University Apartments or Townhouses – these are usually reserved for upper-year students.
Benefits-
- Close to campus
- Safe
- International community of concentrated students.
- The average rental price includes utilities and food.

Cost- ...
... Range anywhere from $6,000 CAD to $16,000 CAD per year depending on the type of accommodation as well as the university and province/territory in which you will be studying.

3) OFF-CAMPUS OPTIONS-
- These are single rental apartments.
- Studio apartments
- Homestays
- Shared apartments
These might be a bit costly.
Cost- $10,000 CAD to $20,000 CAD
Here, the entire rent, food, and other expenses depending on the individual. So you can either adjust or speed lavishly according to your funds.

Being an international student might make you cry on low bank balance but lots of expenses. So, there are many ways for students to get a passive income while studying abroad, such as-

1) CAFES / RESTAURANTS- Most of the students find working at Cafes & restaurants as waiters/waitresses, in the billing section, or the kitchen, based on your experience and skills. These kinds of jobs are easy to find in any city and are mostly open to hiring.

The minimum wage might vary from 8 CAD/hour to 10 CAD/hour.

2) UNIVERSITY WORKS- It includes jobs like working in the cafeteria of the university, library, teaching assistance, computer departments, writing departments, news and articles departments, student unions, student clubs, etc.

These jobs are relatively low-paying but don’t impact your studies are they are assigned by the university themselves and you don’t need a work permit for it.

3) INTERNSHIPS- You can also seek internships in your field of study. This would give you real-time experience and money, “two birds, one stone.”
However, it is very challenging to land one while the competition is huge.

4) CALL CENTRES & CUSTOMER SERVICE - Call centers' jobs require excellent communication skills but minimal or no physical work. The work pressure varies depending upon the nature of the company, descending from sales-related tele-calling to customer service.
Minimum wages start from 14 CAD/ hour to 16 CAD/hour.

5) SUMMER JOBS- Summer jobs are preferable for students who want uninterrupted study time during term-time. Students can work full-time during the summer, or part-time and can also continue during the term.
Below is a list of documents that would be required to apply for a study visa:
Proof of acceptance from a DLI;
Proof of identity; and
Proof of financial support.

International students studying on a full-time and valid study permit visa are allowed to bring their spouse or common-law partners along with them to the country where they will be provided an open work permit upon landing. This can benefit both of you as they can work while you study and there would be financial support. You can later apply for PR along with your spouse as you both would have a background in Canada.
