Mammaplasty For Back And Neck Pain
There are many reasons that people suffer from back and neck pain. You may have a job where you are constantly lifting heavy objects, or maybe you have a job where you are hunched over a computer screen for most of the day. For some women, back and neck pain can be caused by breasts that are too large for their frame. Mammaplasty, also known as mammoplasty or mammoplasties, is a plastic surgery procedure that is that is performed in an effort to reduce the size of breasts that are causing pain in the back or neck. Large breasts can also cause problems in posture, which is another reason that having the mammaplasty surgery is sometimes recommended, or even requested by the patient.
Generally speaking, there are basically two ways that back and neck pain and mammaplasty are connected. The obvious reason as stated above is that a person will undergo the surgery to reduce the size of the breasts, or they may want the surgery to re-shape or lift the breasts, but whatever the reason, the size of the breast is causing the neck and back pain. The neck and the upper part of the back, which supports the chest and diaphragm is commonly ...
... the source of the pain, as the patients posture is most likely affected. The other reason back and neck pain are connected to mammaplasty is because quite often following a mammaplasty operation, the patient will experience neck and back pain as the healing and recovery process begins. Most patients will discover that once completely healed, the issues of neck and back pain do in fact subside.
Women that elect to have a mammaplasty surgery where the breasts are re-shaped or enlarged, do not normally experience back and neck pain. This is because implants do not weigh the same as normal breasts do. However, if a patient happens to request implants that are abnormally large, then that patient may run the risk of creating a neck and back pain issues due to the mammaplasty surgery.
Deciding on whether or not to undergo a mammaplasty surgery to rid yourself of neck and back pain should be discussed with your doctor. There are many things to consider, including the level of pain you may be experiencing, how long you have been having the neck and back pain, and the effect the breast size may be having on your overall posture. If your doctor considers a mammaplasty surgery to reduce neck and back pain a viable solution, it may be well worth the minor discomfort and recovery process that you will go through, especially if your posture is affected.
Mammaplasty is an elective surgery that may be covered by insurance if it can be connected to neck and back pain and having the surgery will correct and eliminate this problem. There are of course other alternatives such as pain medication, massage, chiropractic services and even acupuncture, however all of these suggestions may not permanently relieve your neck and back pain.
