(Cricket news) The Perth Scorchers have announced the signing of English recruits Laurie Evans and Brydon Carse for the upcoming KFC Big Bash League season.

Evans is a stylish and versatile middle-order batter, who will strengthen an already dangerous Scorchers line-up that features Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh, Ashton Turner and Colin Munro.

Evans comes with a wealth of experience and the reputation of a power hitter capable of match-winning brilliance having played 184 T20 matches.

The Surrey player has also made his mark on foreign land playing franchise cricket in the Caribbean, Bangladesh and Pakistan Leagues.

Evans scored three fifties for Surrey in the Vitality Blast T20 competition earlier this year, scoring a total of 298 runs that featured a top score of 65.

Right-arm quick bowler Brydon Carse will be one to watch in this tournament, with his aggressive bowling that regularly clocks above 140kmph.

The South African born English cricketer comes off the back of a solid Vitality Blast T20 season, which saw him pick up the career-best figures ...
... of 3-30 for Durham County Cricket Club.

The 26-year-old made his international debut in July when helping England to a one-day clean sweep of Pakistan. He claimed a career-best five-wicket haul for 61 runs, the second best bowling figures by an England bowler against Pakistan in ODIs.

He's also blistering with the blade, producing 150 runs including his maiden T20 half-century from 30 balls in Durham’s Blast campaign earlier this year alongside Scorchers’ batter Cameron Bancroft.

Perth Scorchers Head Coach Adam Voges said; “Laurie is a top player who will bring versatility, power and experience to the team, he is a great competitor, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Scorchers.

“Brydon is an impressive young talent who can make an impact with both ball and bat and has the ability to take the game away from any opposition.”

Laurie Evans said; “I am chuffed to bits to be given the opportunity to play for the Scorchers this summer, they are a really successful team in the Big Bash.

“I think over my career I have prided myself on being there at the end and winning games of cricket in tight situations, that’s what I’ll be looking to do.

“The Big Bash is certainly a tournament the world looks at as one of the biggest and I’m just really grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Brydon Carse said; “The Scorchers have been one of the top teams in the Big Bash for a number of years and to have the opportunity to play at Optus stadium in front of Scorchers fans will be special.

“I’m hoping to create some match-winning performances with both bat and ball, I like to think I play my cricket with a smile on my face and enjoy it.

“The squad has a lot of depth in all departments and I’m very confident that we can go all the way - it’s exciting.”

Carse will link up with the Scorchers after the game between Australia A and England Lions Men’s which is a part of the Ashes Tour Match on December 12.

The Scorchers have used up all their international spots, with two local players’ spots still left.
