How To Apply Eyeshadow

Are you looking for an easy beginner’s eyeshadow tutorial? Don’t have much time and don’t want to read like a billion word essay? OK, great! Let us guide you into your first steps of creating that flawless look whether you use cheap eyeshadow
or more high end stuff like Laura Mercier Master Class Artistry In Light Illuminations Edition Makeup Palette.
First things first, we’d recommend getting your hands on some good makeup brushes
. There’s loads to choose from but it really is worth spending a little bit extra if you want to get the best results. An artist can’t create their masterpiece unless they have the right tools! You don’t have to break the bank necessarily but make sure you do a bit of research. If you get some good quality tools then they could be with you for a very ...
... long time. So invest in your face!
OK, assuming you’re all kitted out then let’s get cracking. Begin by applying your base colour to your eyelid. If you want a low-key everyday look then only apply up to the crease of your lid (you can see the wehere the crease is when you open your eye) but if you’re going for a more dramatic look then consider applying all the way up to your brow bone. It’ll help with things like creating a smoky look if that’s what you’re going for.
A GOOD HINT
If you’re opting to just cover from the crease down, then start applying from the cease and work downwards so that you don’t accidentally go too far up.
Next, take a dark eyeshadow (how dark and what shade exactly, depends on the look you’re going for so go nuts and start experimenting) and sweep it across the lid following the natural shape and contour of your eye – below the brow bone. Use the eye socket as a guide to where you apply it. Use a domed brush for this if you can. Often when applying eyeshadow you do so with the eye closed but if you have hooded lids then apply with the lid open at first to get the right placement and then close your eye and blend downwards. With hooded lids, if you apply with your eye closed, as soon as you open them the eyeshadow will be partially hidden from view.
You can create a great eye-popping effect by taking a short bristled brush and some very dark eyeshadow and applying it in much the same way as eyeliner in that you press it right where your lid meets your lashes. The darker the eyeshadow the better in general for this step!
Once you’ve added all this dark, a good idea is to add some highlights. For this step its a good idea to use a light coloured, pale and possibly shimmery option to contrast the dark. Apply this to the area around the brow bone and then use the same colour on the inner corner of your eye next to the tear duct. This creates a lovely contrast between the darker and smoky centre with the bright and illuminating outer section of your eyes.
If done correctly, applying eyeshadow can have a dramatic effect and completely change the vibe you emit. You can look sexy, dark and sultry or sweet, innocent and nice. It depends largely on the shades you choose and the way you apply the eyeshadow. The fun part is, you can have it all. Just practice and have fun with it. The more relaxed and confident you are with this then the better it will likely look. Just practice, practice, practice
