Every small detail in your answer sheet matters when it comes to grabbing more marks in your class 10 board exams. As the Maharashtra SSC boards near, it is time to pay attention to some of the best tips you need to know as far as writing a good paper is concerned. You may have already studied a major chunk of your syllabus and might have read thousands of tips on how to study, or how to attempt your paper. This being said, also knowing how to write your paper is of the utmost importance in order to score exceedingly well.

Imagine a scenario wherein the examiner who is assigned with your paper has checked almost hundreds of answer sheets before you. Then consider how your examiner would feel if your paper were to be shabby, unkempt, and untidy. On the flip side, if your paper is neater and a lot easier to read and comprehend, the examiner will be in a better mood to form a great impression on your answer sheet. Your answers should be so visually appealing to the examiner so that he/she need not put any extra effort to go through your answer script. So to help you out, here are the best tips you need to know in order to ...
... write the best answer sheet ever!

So without further ado, let’s get right into how you can write a paper that is neat, precise, and well-framed.

Draw Lines To Keep Your Content Looking Aligned

As soon as you get your answer sheet before the question paper is given to you, invest your time in working on tidying up space in your paper. Draw a two-inch border on the right side of the page of your answer sheet where you can do your rough work. Otherwise, doing the rough work anywhere else in the sheet will make it look untidy. On the other hand, if you want to delegate the last page in the sheet for your rough work, leave the space after line as it is, this will allow some breathing space on the page, leaving it a little easier to read due to the white space balance.

Go Beyond Text

Always go beyond the call of duty and try to increase the pictographic content wherever possible by including as many diagrams, tables, charts, etc., as possible. It will help to make your knowledge more noticeable and visible than writing it in the form of long paragraphs and will also help the examiner in truly noticing the fact that you have studied well and understood all concepts instead of just memorizing text and writing it down. Effective time management will allow you to do this better. Make sure you solve adequate sample papers in order to break down your time and also practice some diagrams, tables, and pie charts while attempting these mock tests. This will give you a great idea of how you can successfully divide your time without having to lose out on any questions or marks.

Divide Your Answers

Most students have the habit of writing answers in a single paragraph, especially since they feel that they don’t have enough time. This makes it extremely difficult for the examiner as he/she has already read dozens of these answers at this point, and doesn’t feel like getting into another cramped block of text. To combat this drab and monotonous trend and score better, try to write most of the answers in points or bullets with properly highlighted headers and sub-headers. Try and use an alternate color (from the colors that are allowed) to write down sub-headings and point headings.

Don’t Be Afraid To Highlight

Once again, if you leave no space or division in your answer, this might frustrate your examiner. In such a scenario, even if you divide your answer into points, sub-heads, or paragraphs or even if you don’t- it is important to either highlight or underline the important bits of your answer that can draw the examiner’s attention to the core facts that will give him/her the insights on whether your answer is correct and whether you have understood the core concept. According to what the rules are, you could either highlight the core words and phrases with a highlighter or underline them with a pencil or a different colored pen, neatly with a ruler.

Write an introduction and conclusion

Wherever it is possible, make sure you write a good introduction and conclusion to your answer, so as to create a background and an end to what you have written. This will enable you to space out long answers and will give the examiner confidence about your ability to explain answers a lot more effectively.

Draw A Line After Each Answer, Or Go To The Next Page

Amidst checking hundreds of papers, the examiner’s attention and eyesight may get fuzzy in figuring out where one answer has ended and where the next has begun, making it troublesome for you in scoring better. To avoid any of these discrepancies, it is important that you let the examiner know where your previous answer has ended. This is all the more crucial in places where you have jumbled the question paper sequence and attempted questions in a different sequence. To do this, either leave a line and draw a dividing line between the answer and the next or leave the remaining bit of the page and start with a new answer on a new page.

Write Fast, But Neat

Our hands are constructed so that our fingers can move up and down, not side to side. Thus, by writing with a more up and down motion, your hand can move faster and also prevents your writing from getting too messy. Also, don’t just turn your wrists. Move your arms side by side at a constant rate as well. By moving your arms instead of your wrists, you’ll remove stress from turning your wrists. Allow your arm to guide your hand, not your wrist. Your writing will become straighter as well.

Don’t grip your pen so hard that you overwork your muscles, just relax your arms and keep it going.

Write The Correct Question Numbers

If you’re not writing the answers as per the sequence of the question paper, you will have to be extremely vigilant in writing the correct numbers and options you choose. So, do not forget to write the question number against each answer properly. It should be clearly visible, or else you may lose marks for this silly mistake.

Do Not Scribble

If you have made an error in an entire paragraph or even just one or two words, make sure you don’t just scribble all over the mistake. This disturbs the look of your answer. Instead, draw just one simple line or slash across the word or paragraph to show that the error has been made.

In the end, once you are done with the paper, revise it thoroughly and highlight the important points or words. For instance- you can underline important words in paragraphs to grab the attention of the examiner.
