Apple M1 Pro Vs. M1 Max: Which Chip Is The Winner Here?
Apple M1 Pro vs. Apple M1 Max
For Apple fans, it is most vital that you check out the close price range, including the features, designs, resurrected ports, new display, and many more. Find these features with detailed comparison in Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max review guide.
But what affects your decision to invest your money in one of the high-end laptops is the internal changes, especially for creative professionals. They are most likely to fly under these expensive offers.
In both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, you will find one of Apple’s new chips. The M1 Max or M1 Pro both consist of the CPU and GPU cores. The model in older pro-level Macs and current Windows PCs consists of a CPU from Intel or AMD (with a separate GPU from AMD or Nvidia).
There are few versions available of the M1 Pro with either 10 or 8 CPU cores and 16 or 14 GPU cores. When we talk about M1 Max, it also consists of 10 CPU cores but includes your choice of 24 or 32 GPU cores.
Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max: Performance
After trying out both the models for Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max review, it seems like M1 Pro and ...
... M1 Max differ in performance. At the same time, M1 Max doubles the contributors to the theoretical performance, including the number of hardware ProRes accelerators (a significant feature for pro-video editing purposes).
M1 Max also doubles the bandwidth for some internal interfaces. For instance, between the memory and processor. However, they will not deliver a performance boost in real-world use.
And all of this was an initial experience while reviewing the Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max as a mainstream user who has a habit of dabbling during video editing, Photoshop/illustrator projects, and 3D modeling. The difference was noticeable in the initial stage for a few days with one of these devices. It also included the standard benchmarks that we usually use as a first pass while judging the device’s capabilities. While reviewing Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max devices, we also included comparisons of benchmarks like Cinebench R23, quick 8K premiere, and Geekbench 5.
After testing both the devices for a couple of weeks, these products became handy. Although, it was necessary to put together a few pro-level creators and try some different tests.
Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max: Chip Comparison
For the Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max review, we also tested the 16-inch M1 Pro with M1 Max chip and the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip.
To perform this, we rendered a scene in 3-D design with animation software Houdini. After this, we discovered that the actual render time was the same on both Apple M1 Pro & M1 Max chips. However, they both provided faster speed with the same workload on a MacBook with the regular M1 chip.
It was clear that the M1 Max system offered much more responsive performance than M1 Pro when operating on the software. Impressed by the device’s performance, we were seconds away from buying the fully upgraded M1 Max MacBook Pro.
Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max: GPU Differences
When it comes to the comparison between the M1 Pro and M1 Max, we processed some of the cross-platform GPU tests. During the Geekbench 5 compute test using metal, Apple’s graphics API showed some apparent differences. Here, the winner is M1 Max with a higher score.
The same thing occurred in the Wildlife Extreme, which means the one benchmark within the more prominent 3D Mark tool runs on M1 Mac, including iOS, Windows, and other platforms. You will find M1 Max with a new Razer Blade 14 with the Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU. It falls between the Pro and Max, an older gaming laptop with an Nvidia RTX 2080 Max-Q. But remember that the Windows version of testing does not utilize Apple’s Metal API.
Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max: Conclusion
After this comparison, you must be thinking, where does that leave us? Well, to conclude the Apple M1 Pro vs. M1 Max review on the preliminary basis- both the chips will show you the difference in performance, but only in particular scenarios.
It may be more important to you than the task-completing factor when it comes to in-app responsiveness. But if you are working as a creative Pro and looking to make a sizable investment, you might struggle with the performance of the M1 Max chip. It is because your device may not be able to handle the workload. Also, it depends on how much your critical applications can rely on the GPU or CPU and which chip version you are comparing.
In our opinion, people who work with high-end creative applications, even for basic video editing, should go for M1-powered MacBook Air, 24-inch iMac, or 13-inch MacBook.
