Did you know that there is an International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook that sets the standard for this?

Reading and understanding what’s in your skincare can be daunting and deceiving. The International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredients (or INCI for short) is a system of names that are internationally recognised to help you identify what’s in your skincare products.

What is INCI?
INCI information is published by the Personal Care Products Council in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook. The Dictionary and Handbook provides a worldwide, accurate, transparent, and harmonised list of names so that we as consumers can understand key actives and ingredients.

Why is INCI important?
1. Skin specialists and others in the dermatology community are ensured a sensible sharing of scientific information, which helps to identify chemicals responsible for bad skin ...

2. Scientists are ensured that information in publications will be referenced by a consistent name to prevent confusion, misidentification, or the loss of important information.

3. It also enables the cosmetic industry to track the safety and the regulatory status of ingredients efficiently on a global basis, enhancing its ability to market safe products in compliance with various national regulations.

4. Finally (and we think most importantly), transparency is provided to you, the users of skincare products as ingredients are identified by a single name regardless of the national origin of the product.
