If you are having surgery during the day, you may be asked to prepare in advance for surgery (for example, not eating or drinking after a certain time). The term emergency surgery is used for operations that require immediate hospitalization, usually by accident and emergency department. Emergency surgery is usually performed within 24 hours and can be done immediately or overnight for serious or life-threatening conditions.
Types of surgical procedure
