Health insurance is best defined as an agreement between you and an insurance provider in which the insurer promises to pay substantially bigger healthcare bills in exchange for relatively lower premiums. In other words, health insurance protects your cash in the event of a medical emergency for a small monthly cost.

Did you know that over 5.5 crore people in India were forced into poverty due to medical expenditures in just one year, which is devastating? It is, in fact, one of the leading causes of bankruptcy in the whole wide world. Even little health problems can set you back by lakhs and lakhs or hard-earned money. That is why you need to have proper health insurance plans.

In India, health insurance operates like this:

When the insured buys health insurance coverage, the procedure begins. You can choose an insurance policy based on the coverage given, the inclusions, the exclusions, and the premium. That's when you'll start working with the insurance company.
Some insurance policies include hospital cash, ...
... which is a daily amount paid to you depending on how many days you spend in the hospital. This is intended to cover any daily expenses incurred while in the hospital.
The premium you will pay on your Health Insurance policy will be determined by the insurance company based on your age and income. It will also perform a full medical examination to determine your overall health. It will set a yearly premium and approve the sum assured based on these variables. Any claims made within the sum assured limit will be cleared based on deductibles and co-payments.
In the event of hospitalization, check to see if the health insurance plans are cashless insurance policies. If the insurance is cashless, you must contact the network hospital's TPA. Your hospital cost will be reimbursed directly by the TPA. If the treatment is not cashless, you will be responsible for paying the costs, which will be reimbursed by the insurance carrier.
Some insurance companies reward you with a no-claim bonus if you don't make any claims in a given year. This could be in the form of a premium reduction or an increase in the sum assured.
The entire claim process is simple and straightforward. It takes very little time, and most insurance companies are very helpful in resolving claims.
